LORD SELKIRK SONGBOOK 2014
Special thanks to Len Udow,
The Manitoba Arts Council and
the students of Lord Selkirk School
The Five Senses Room 4 & 8, Grades 1 & 2
Chorus…
At school we learn about our five senses
We learn to understand what we can do
At school we read about the five senses
That protects me and you.
1)
You can smell fresh baked pies
Hmmmm….that would be a surprise
Hear noises, crash, bang, boom
When you come to our classroom.
2)
Feel cuddly soft warm stuffies
Listen to our Daddies and Mommies
Touching all the shapes
And decorating cup cakes.
Chorus…
3)
Feel the cold and heat
From your head to your feet
Sunglasses for your eyes
Under sunny Manitoba skies.
4)
Clothes for your skin
For your own protection
Winter boots and ski pants
Let’s do our 5 senses dance.(sight, hearing, taste, touch & smell)

Where we play hockey
Skate On the ice
When we score goals
It’s real nice
2)
Where we play soccer
And play defense
In a big grassy field
With friends to play against.
Chorus…
3)
Canada has friendly people
Helping each other out
Sharing meals, and friendships
Makes you want to shout. (Yay! Canada)

Chorus…
You and me, Community!
123, Community!
1) A community is
Where people live
From all different races.
Where people play
At parks and schools
In all different places.
Cars, roads and bridges
Stores and restaurants
All the animals, trees
As many as you want
2) A community is
Where people work
And build their lives and homes
Where mother nature
Smiles and says
In community you are not alone.
Hospitals and hotels
All those shopping malls
Red and green lights
Looking after us all
3) A community is
Friends and family
Who like to come together
A community is
Friendly people Len Udow 2014

There are great lakes
And tall mountains
Many rivers and streams
Wild animals
Caribou and moose
And many hockey teams.
Chorus…
2)
People in the arctic
Farm in the country
Or work in large cities.
We are Canadians
From all over the world
Right here on the prairies.

What is a Family Room 33, Grade 5
Chorus…
What is a family
People who care about each other
What is a family
Sister, Brother, Father and Mother.
That is a family (3X)
1)
A group of people
Maybe unrelated
Like our classroom at school.
Where we learn to accept
Forgive and have fun
Our class is so cool!
Chorus…
2)
We have a lot in common
But we are all unique
Different in our own way
Special personalities
That we respect
We try to understand each day.

The Future Room 28, Grade 5 & 6
Chorus…
The future is
Something that will happen
Ahead in time.
The future is tomorrow
Or the next day
The future is yours and mine.
1)
We are always… in the present
And don’t know what will be
We can always… find the past
In our memory!
Chorus…
2)
The future is… everyone
We are all connected
What goes around... comes around
We are all selected.
Chorus…
3)
The future is just waiting
As you will see
So live for the moment
patiently. Songwriting Workshop

Space Room 27, Grade 6
Chorus…Space…(3x)
1)
Space is so pretty
It’s the final frontier
Where science teaches us
How we might’ve got here.
Space is darkness and light
Without oxygen so dangerous
And no life forms
That is so strange to us.
Chorus…
2)
How small we are
Compared to the stars
On this blue planet
We call ours.
Are there other planets
With water and air
We really don’t know
What’s out there!
3)
We orbit the sun
That gives us heat and light
One side of earth is day
The other is night.
Will we know the universe
If aliens are real
If black holes exist
Will they be revealed. Songwriting Workshop

Grade 4, 5 and 6 students

There’s history in the mural, when you look there’s so much more
We’ve seen many changes looking through the years
It’s made us who we are and the future is here
Lord Selkirk School is where learning is fun
Lord Selkirk School is a great place for everyone
Reading, math, writing and always being green
Our friends and our community help to reach our dreams
