NEW
SLETTER I would like to thank Mrs Evans for acting
Principal last week in my absence. It is always nice to know that we have such highly skilled staff who are willing to step up and accept a challenge to improve their own skills or learn something new. This is the culture of positive learning that we extend to Nilma’s Learning Community and values. The REAL Values @ Nilma. Respect and Responsibility—We build respectful relationships and taking responsibility for our own choices. We show how to be respectful and responsible through what we say, do and how we act. Environment—We are aware of our environment and are friends to the environment. Achievement—We are building on our knowledge and skills to grow at our own level and set goals. Learning—We are life long learners and practise our effective learning strategies.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION Tonight will be a night for us to remember! Students will have the opportunity to display all of the school values through the presentation of our School Production for 2017. ‘Hooray for Diffendoofer Day’ will be a huge success! Thank you Mrs Buckler for putting in all the extra time into organisation, directing, coordination and for everything else that you did to bring the show to fruition. Thank you to the staff who will be behind the scenes tonight. Special mention to Sharon F and Barb for their help with props and coordinating before the event. Education Support staff shine through once again with their multiskilling and creative flair. All the students will be able to shine tonight! Everyone should be proud of all your efforts, determination and persistence throughout the term. Tonight all the hard work will pay off! As they say goes: ‘Break a leg!’
SCHOOL DISCO Thank you to Parent Club for their organisation of the School Disco—especially Katie and Nicki! Thank you to the staff and parents that provided supervision and support. It was great to see so many children (and adults!) enjoying themselves and having a boogie on the dancefloor!
Thanks to TJ the DJ for the music and entertainment on the night. A huge THANK YOU also goes to Warragul Gardens Caravan Park for the donation of the supper! It was yummy!
SCHOOL REVIEW Thank you to all the families and students who gave us feedback in the many forms of surveys and discussions, to inform our school review. We have lots to celebrate and reflect on of what we have achieved over the past 4 years. We have been able to also identify some areas that have come to light in the feedback process and work towards building our plan for the future. Our core goal is to provide an education that supports each student at Nilma to become life long learners and actively engaged and responsible citizens in the community. The students are our core! We will work on keeping those things that parents and the community value such as the friendly and caring culture and work on the areas that we need to improve. We will be able to create a new vision and reflect on our values and build on our strengths. I am really looking forward to the Review over the next 2 Thursdays (14th and 21st September.) On Thursday 21st September, between 9-10am, we are seeking some parents to be a part of the review. If you are interested could you please contact me by next Wednesday. Thanks Annette
STAFFING Kath Evans will be on leave for a week—Monica Berkelmans and Amanda Buckler will be working in Red group. Barb Vagg will be on long service leave until the end of term. Sharon Salt and others will be stepping in to support Barb’s role over the weeks. Have a well deserved break and holiday.

HOMEGROUP HAPPENINGS!
‘Hooray For Diffendoofer Day’ Well done to the Yellow HG for their efforts in the school production rehearsals. You should all be very proud of yourselves. Good luck tonight, it will be great!
On Tuesday we had our whole class reward, we had a teddy bear picnic! We had our picnic in the Ruby Red classroom because it was raining, but that didn’t matter because everyone was so excited! Thank you to the parents/guardians who helped their child bring along something healthy and yum to share for
our picnic. The students had such a wonderful day and loved having their teddy with them at school.

SCHOOL ORGANISATION EARN AND LEARN AT WOOLWORTHS From the 26th of July to September 19th Earn and Learn will be happening at Woolworths. For every 10 dollars you spend you will earn one Woolworths Earn and Learn sticker. The stickers can be put on a Sticker sheet. The sticker sheet can be dropped in a collection box which will be kept outside the office. The stickers will help the school to get educational resources.
CENTREPAY We are currently in the process of setting up Centrepay at Nilma, as another option for families to pay for the Essential Educational Items and Excursion Levy charges. If you are interested in this option please register your name at the Office and we will send to you further information once Centrepay has been finalised.
LOST PROPERTY We have had a number of students that have misplaced jumpers over the past few weeks. We would appreciate it if families could please check the names on their jumpers to make sure the wrong ones haven't accidently been taken home! FOOTY COLOURS DAY Students are able to come dressed in their favourite team colours on Friday 15th September for Footy Colours Day! Students can bring along a gold coin donation. Hot Dogs will be available for $2.50 each at Lunchtime. Order forms will be sent home next week.
FRIDAY HOT LUNCHES Friday 15th September will be the last day for Hot Lunches this term. Please have your orders and payment in by 9.30am on Wednesday morning.
I’m not sure where the last week went. Like many others this latest ‘bug’ knocked me for a
‘six’ (ask the kids what that means by the way). I hope you’re feeling on top again.
Last time we spoke ‘Acts of Service’ was very much centred on the parent getting the child
to serve them. This week I’m hoping that the ‘act of serving’ will stretch into a wider
community. It can start with ‘a parent modelling (not telling the child to do it)’simple
things like picking up rubbish and placing it in a plastic bread bag for later when a bin is
handy – this is focusing on the environment. If you’ve got a good strong stomach you
could use another bag to remove a stray dogs faeces from the footpath, showing them how to express the air
and then tie a very strong knot to keep the smells at bay. If this is a problem in your area in particular, then
get the kids to hold the bags up and take a photo – send it into the Gazette with a note of their names and a
commendation for excellence, naming the street if that is helpful for the Shire to ‘tag’ the problem.
Some acts of service are done quietly behind the scene, others can be more challenging like, writing to the
Baw Baw Shire if you have noted an uneven concrete block that might cause tripping, (use good reasoning in
your covering note, especially if there are many elderly using the path or those with poor balance). Why
don’t you practice with the school; send a note to the school paper with a photo. You never know, we may
be raising future politicians and if they have had this sort of practice in their youth, they will have a greater
understanding of community needs in their chosen profession.
Enjoy a break for the weekend. Mrs P
