Looking at patterns in astrology:

• The general cycles of planets in heaven, both in the zodiac and in relation to other planets, help us grasp the meaning of the time and/or Zeitgeist.

• The patterns these planets form with an existing horoscope show us who or what is touched. A horoscope is a true image of the planets in the sky. The movements in the sky can touch positions in that horoscope.

A horoscope reflects a quality of time for a certain moment, so the actual Zeitgeist can set this original moment in motion.

• If that horoscope belongs to a person, he or she will become an actor in the unfolding events.

• If that horoscope belongs to a company, a country etc., this company or country will experience these unfolding events.

• If that horoscope is symbolic for a special theme or idea or invention, etc., we see a next step in its development.

Business and economic cycles

Economic cycles

• Kondratiev 45 – 60 years

• Kuznetz building cycle (infrastructural investment cycle) 15 – 25 years

• Juglar economic cycle of fixed investments (= investments in machinery and the like) 7 to 11 years, improved by Joseph Schumpeter

• Kitchin cycle of product inventory / consumer goods 3 – 5 years 9about 40 weeks)

Other cycles

• The Business Cycle of Malcolm Rorty, 1922

• Kalecki’s political business cycle

• Austrian business cycle – government intervention

• Etc.

• This is not a fixed cycle, as the duration of the cycle can differ several years. It is a cycle in the sense that it follows a certain pattern.

Theory is still important

“In sum, the Kondratieff wave appears to be a highly pervasive and hence a critical process in the functioning of the world system. As such, it deserves more recognition than it currently receives. When more attention is paid to its influences, we will no doubt discover that it is even more central to world system development than we suspect currently.”

2017 Edelman Trust barometer

• Global implosion of trust in governments, companies, institutions, and in experts.

• Largest drop in trust ever.

• Quote: we have now moved “beyond the point of trust being simply a key factor in product purchase or selection of employment opportunity; it is now the deciding factor in whether a society can function.”

• Quote: “The growing storm of distrust is powerful and unpredictable.”

Sovereign Default Cycle – Martin Armstrong

• Dec. 15, 1979: Martin Armstrong published his Sovereign Default Cycle. The model showed 2009 as the start of what he calls The last Phase Transition, leading to a confidence crisis in 2017. This is fully based on understanding history and cycles.

• This is 38 years before the Edelman Trust report, which was fully based on research and interviews.

Crucial difference with other models

• Kondratiev, Juglar, Kitchin and other models are based on just one type of cycle.

• Armstrong: everything in the world has its own cycle, its own self-similarity pattern, and all those cycles interact, no matter if it is about sunspot cycles or the price of gold.

• Important times when cycles line up with the ECM.

The Economic Confidence Model (ECM) is a global business cycle. The entire world economy NEVER peaks and bottoms together. This latest turning point of July 12th, 2018 (2018.529) has apparently provided a MAJOR warning that we just could be moving into a major Cycle Inversion from the perspective of the United States. What does that mean? It means that the USA may be moving into a serious high in 2020 against a backdrop of a decline for the world insofar as liquid assets (non-fixed).

2010 – Armstrong’s models predicted for the decade of 2010 - 2020:• Sovereign debt crisis – at all levels. Start in October 2015 and critical

point in 2017 which is the end of an 86 year ‘sovereign debt default wave’.

• Higher taxes and lower standards of living.

• Explosion of arrogance and corruption in and around governments.

• Pension crisis – start 2016.

• Strong increase of civil unrest and agitation.

• Danger of an international war.

• War cycle starts in 2014 and will intensify at its 6-year point = 2020, which coincides with a bottom in the ECM. (2014: Islamic State)

Astrological cycles

• The slower planets in the signs

• The mutual aspect of the slower planets: their phases

• The combination of all the phases of the slower planets, which is done by Gouchon, Andre Barbault and Ganeau

• The patterns of these planetary phases in important charts: your own chart, charts of countries, currencies, etc.

• The position of these Zeitgeist-patterns in solar returns.

The perfect storm is building: many separate non-astrological cycles coincide = unusual

Economic low (Kondratjiev) or being in the risky autumn(modified Kondratiev), followed by winter

Ganeau and Barbault: deep lows , but entering more creative phase after 2021 (Ganeau) or 2025 (Barbault)

Pluto entered the last and most dangerous decade of Capricorn.

Pluto in Capricorn is ‘people against power’, which tends to escalate in the last 10 degrees:- We see more

dictatorships - We see more civil unrest

Last time Pluto was around the beginning of the last decade was in 1772, entering the years preparing for the French revolution.© Karen Hamaker-Zondag: When cycles coincide – Lecture

Prof. Eric Cline published a study in 2014 called 1177 BC, The year civilization collapsed. The book has been translated into many languages. Cline analyzed why such a high standing civilization as the Bronze Age could break down and collapse in just a few decades, throwing the countries centuries back in culture and technology.

There is an eerie similarity in dynamics that led to the end of the civilization of the Bronze Era and the current time, which many people also feel as of some kind of end is coming near.

A perfect storm

It was a coming together of many things:

✓ Complexity of the organization of society: a small event can cause a chain reaction = the same as today

✓ Too much interdependency = the same as today

✓ Climate changes = the same as today

✓ Earthquakes = today: increasing amount and intensity of earthquakes and volcanism

✓ Spread of diseases = today: huge problems with antibiotics; superbugs on the rise

✓ Instability because of massive migration was one of the factors contributing to the decline = the same as today

What I have learned

• Everything in the world is cyclical• All those cycles have a different

duration, are in different phases• All those cycles interact with each

other• Cycles have important phases,

similar to the phases of the moon: the return to their initial position and move on, (New Moon) and come on turning positions (First and Last Quarter or Full Moon)

• - When many different cycles reach in the same period of time an important phase in their own cycle, they start to resonate very strong.

• - These can be planetary cycles in astrology, but also cycles of whatever in economy, society, etc.

• - Cycles based on the principle of self similarity (the discovery of Mandelbrot) are very strong and basic cycles. This is the ECM Martin Armstrong discovered. These are fractals.

21

Page 22: Looking at patterns in astrology

What I have learned

• Planetary cycles have such a strong regularity, that one can consider them as equally important as fractals.

• Planetary cycles repeat in history, historical events and historic Zeitgeists are reflecting the phases in the cycles. Hence: l’histoire se repete.

• One separate cycle never explains everything, you always have to look at how cycles interact: the Kondratievcycles says something about inventions and technics in their relationship with society, but nothing else.

• We know in astrology how powerful T-squares of the slower planets, or triple conjunctions are: they are combinations of several cycles.

• Combining astrological cycles as basic cycles, study them in history, and combine them with the multitude of cycles in the world around us, gives us a very powerful tool to understand the Zeitgeist and dynamics of our time.

• Putting the astrological cycles in important horoscopes, including yours, and including solar returns, is very revealing.

© Karen Hamaker-Zondag: When cycles coincide – Lecture 2019-09-15

22

Page 23: Looking at patterns in astrology

Always use

• Astrological cycles and as much non-astrological cycles as possible.

• Lessons from history.

• Use the astrological cycles in general to understand our time.

• Use them in collective charts of nations, institutions, religions, etc. to see the bigger picture.

• Use them in your chart and in your solar returns to specify where the message of our time is hitting you or inviting you to enter a new phase….

As we are all part of these unfolding patterns in heaven…..
