Looking ahead, studies show that today’s workers will change jobs and careers more times than they might change cars. It is estimated that a worker starting a job today will have around 14 different careers in their lifetime. It is also suggested that 10 of those careers haven’t been invented yet. Looking ahead, studies show that today’s workers will change jobs and careers more times than they might change cars. It is estimated that a worker starting a job today will have around 14 different careers in their lifetime. It is also suggested that 10 of those careers haven’t been invented yet. With each change, that person must learn a new skill set or apply their current skills in a different way.

Boy Brains and Girl Brains(Michael Gurian is the author of Boys and Girls Learn Differently. Notes from the book and lectures by Michael Gurian.)

Research shows that the two sexes learn differently.Lots of other factors come in to play as well – individualism.

Most kids are able to adapt and be flexible in the classroom (60 to 70%)The other 30% are the ones who get in trouble, fail, and don’t learn.

Determined by testosterone bursts in utero.In most cases girl’s brains mature faster than boys brains.

Myelination is complete earlier in girls.The corpus callosum (the bundle of nerves that connects the left and right hemispheres) is 20% larger in females than males.

Girls can acquire complex verbal skills up to a year earlierIn general, girls take in more sensory data than boys – see better, hear better, smell better.

Boys are better spatially – measuring, mechanical design , geography.Boy brains have less serotonin than girls, leading to more impulsive fidgety behavior.

Boys have more testosterone – aggression hormone – leads to aggression first, questions laterBoys have more blood flow to the limbic system of the brain (fight or flight) during times of stress.

Girls have more progesterone – bonding chemical – leads to bonding first, questions later.Girls have more blood flow to the top of the brain (verbal) during times of stress.

Female have 6 to 7 verbal centers in the brain.Female brain has 15% more blood flow than male, processes data more quickly. Quicker to verbalize, will solve problems through verbalization.

Problem solving in the female brain is non-lateral – it occurs in many areas of the brain.Males have 1 to 2 verbal centers in the brain.

Males have more spinal fluid in the brain, prepares them for more gross motor activity and quicker to solve problems through physical response.Problem solving in the male brain is lateral – meaning it occurs in one part of the brain.

Resting brain of women shows same activity level as the active male brain.The brain is plastic and flexible, but some things are set by nature. Nature and nurture determine the architecture of the brain – it is a dance.

Kids think differently than adults. Their brains are developing differently than ours. They need to exercise all parts of

their brain.

Apple Cake10 pounds of white food coloring1 gallon of lovely good cake frosting2 gallons of sugar2 and 3 gallons of milk1 gallon of water1 nice apple cake from the storePut them all together in a bowl. Mix it with a spoon on a long stick so you don’t get your hands down in the dip. Stir it for a gallon long.Pour it in a round pot and put it on the right side of the stove until the big hand is on the six.Take them out and put them together and we have cake! It makes the number of pieces for a party or for dessert, because remember the cake is the same size as the pan.If you don’t like the frosting, scrape it off cuz’ there’s no whining!

Brain Rule #2Very young children may not have a lot of knowledge about

the world, but they know how to get it!

At the most basic level, our brain is designed to:

Solve problem that are related to surviving in an unstable outdoor environment and to do so in almost constant motion.

That’s how we took over the globe. We adapted.

As we adapted, we started to walk upright. That gives us more energy to use for our brain. 2% of our body weight

uses 20% of our energy! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!
