Term 3 Week 7 The excitement never stops! The senior students had a wonderful week in Sydney with lots of experiences to further enrich our curriculum delivery and provide a heap of experiences new to many. Thank you to all the parents for the appreciation of facebook pics Madame Tussauds was a particularly fun photo backdrop. K-2 had a fun week with the whole playground to themselves. The painters took advantage of 2 empty classrooms and we have a fresh coat of paint on a number of walls both inside and out. Congratulations to our soccer team and their proud coaches, Mrs Simson and Mrs McCarthy. It was really enjoyable to take our cheer squad and see their amazing performance on the field. Organisation for the next phase is underway. Healthy Harold has a sore throat and for a giraffe that is indeed a serious problem! We have rescheduled his visit for next term hoping he is feeling better after the holidays. Over the term, we have been reminding our students of safe behaviour on the bus, including sitting in the seats properly and remaining seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. Yesterday our soccer team secured a spot at the state finals of the 2019 Small SchoolsKnockout Competition after a tough game against Gravesend Public School. Gravesend had our team on the defence from the kick off however our team dug deep with strong defence being rewarded with the first goal to Kyle Sternbeck. Gravesend fought back to level the score which fired our team up even more to secure another goal to Stirling Gallagher to go into the half time break 2 -1. Gravesend came out firing in the second half. Kyle and his fellow backs together with goalie Zac had their hands full defending off many goal attempts from Gravesend. At the other end of the field Gravesend’s goalie is to be commended on saving many attempts at goal from our team. Stirling secured the game with another goal late in the second half with Cody and Jake being aggressive up the front, continuously helping out. ALL players had an outstanding game and contributed to the teams win. Special mention to Blake and Kent who were absolutely amazing in the midfield. Soccer is definitely a team sport, whether players are on the field for the full game or subbed on and off. The team is to be commended on their sportsmanship and team work throughout the rounds they have played so far. Mrs Simson & Mrs McCarthy could not be more proud of this group of kids and the way they conduct themselves. It was great having students in Years 3-6 supporting the team. Our team will play in the PSSA state final at Valentine Park in Sydney on Thursday September 26. It is a very exciting time for everyone involved knowing our team has made the top 4 in state for this division. Congratulations team! We can’t wait for Sydney. A huge thank you to the P&C who have purchased new sports shirts that the team will be able to proudly wear at their game in Sydney. This is a fantastic experience for students and a great way to experience the ‘state’ atmosphere. 3-6 SYDNEY EXCURSION Last week 26 students from Years 3-6 travelled to Sydney for four days of fun, learning experiences. Tuesday was an early start bound for Taronga Zoo. Students were lucky to experience many up close encounters with several animals in their enclosures. Tuesday night saw students head to Sydney Tower. After a 4D short movie experience students travelled 19 floors to get to the viewing platform. With 360° views of the city at night it was definitely worth it. Wednesday started with a ferry ride to Cockatoo Island where students participated in a ‘Convict Times’ workshop. Students found this really interesting to hear how convicts lived and built on cockatoo island without today’s technology. After a return ferry ride to circular quay it was off to Manly beach for some surfing/body boarding lessons. This not only was a massive hit with students but provided staff with possibly the best entertainment of the excursion. Who would have thought our country kids would take to surfing so well! Thursday was a massive day! Students walked to Darling Harbour where they visited Sydney Wildlife Zoo and The Aquarium before heading to Madame Tussaud’s for some serious celebrity spotting. After mixing it with the rich and famous students headed across to the Maritime Museum where they explored The HMB Endeavour before heading below the depths of the sea in the submarine, HMAS Onslow. After the museum students headed to Cockle Bay to dine at the Blackbird Café before back to Kingpin for some serious Laser Tag and Tenpin Bowling Fun. On Friday morning we awoke to rain which enabled us to head to Sunrise however it didn’t stop us exploring the Opera House before heading for home. A huge thank you to students who displayed outstanding behaviour throughout the excursion. It really is a pleasure to be able to take students away and receive many compliments from venues.
