Place a marker for the beginning of the round, and to work in rounds. Work brioche stitch in rounds until piece measures 7 7/8 inches (20 cm) from cast-on edge.Divide work and continue in brioche stitch in rows as before until piece measures 21¼ inches (54 cm) from cast-on edge, end with a wrong side row. Place a marker at the center of the row.Next [dec] row: Work to 2 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, then work to the end = 62 stitches.Next row: Work t1 stitch before the marker, purl 2, work to the end.Repeat the last 2 rows 5 more times = 52 stitches.Divide the stitches at the center of the row with 26 stitches on each needle, and so that both needle tips face the same direction when the work is folded at the center of the row. Hold both needles together with the right sides of the work together (wrong sides of work show on the outside), and with a spare needle, knit together the first stitch on both needles, * knit together 1 stitch from both needles, lift the first stitch over the 2nd stitch and off the needle to bind off 1 stitch; repeat from * to the end of the row.Cut yarn and fasten off the remaining stitch. Weave in all ends. Sew pompom to tip of hood.
