Common Core Standards
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.2.a Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3.c Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.
Materials:
1. Board game 2. Star cards 3. Star tokens 4. Game pieces (not included) 5. Die (not included)
Directions:
1. Laminate board game, star cards, and star tokens. 2. Decide which student will go first. Student will roll die and move the appropriate
number of spaces. Student will say the name of the picture and decide if that word has a short or long vowel, and which vowel sound it has. If answered correctly, student earns a star token.
3. When a student lands on a red star, he/she chooses a star card and follows the directions on the card. When answered correctly, the student receives 2 star tokens.
4. The student with the most star token wins.
