The LSC shall pursue student-athlete development with highest regard to the principles of academic excellence, graduaon success, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, resourcefulness, community service, gender equity, and diversity. The LSC - founded on April 25, 1931 - has developed from a five-team conference of Texas- based schools to a 19-member league that spans four states (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas). The league connues to assist its member instuons in the maintenance of intercollegiate athlec programs that are compable with the highest standards of educaon and compeve sports. Throughout the league’s 88-year history, various instuons have competed under the LSC banner. Today, only Texas A&M-Commerce (then East Texas State) remains from the original group that was formed in 1931 when North Texas State, Southwest Texas State, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Ausn withdrew from the old Texas Intercollegiate Athlec Associaon. The membership alignment has changed over the years, with current members added from 1954 to 2019. Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I) joined in 1954, and Angelo State in 1968. Conference membership remained within the Texas borders unl 1984 when Eastern New Mexico was admied. Since then, the LSC has included members from Arkansas and Oklahoma. Cameron (1988, 1996) was added near the outset of an expansion phase, while Texas Woman’s (1989) and previous members West Texas A&M (1986, 1993) and Tarleton State (1968, 1994) joined the league soon aſter. Midwestern State was admied early in 1995, while Incarnate Word joined the league in 2010. Harding reconnected with the league as an affiliate member in track and field from 2013-15, and McMurry was an affiliate member in indoor and outdoor track and field and football in 2014. In 2016, UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico were added to the league, while Lubbock Chrisan joined as an affiliate member in indoor and outdoor track and field that same year. Oklahoma Panhandle State was an affiliate member in football in 2016. Dallas Bapst was an affiliate member in indoor and outdoor track and field in 2019. On July 1, 2019, the LSC added eight schools as Dallas Bapst, Lubbock Chrisan, Oklahoma Chrisan, St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s, Texas A&M Internaonal, Arkansas-Fort Smith and UT Tyler joined the league. With 19 members, the LSC is the largest conference in NCAA Division II. Past members of the LSC include Trinity, Houston, Lamar, Howard Payne, Sul Ross State, McMurry, Harding, Ouachita Bapst, Central Oklahoma, East Central (Okla.), Northeastern State (Okla.), Southeastern Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma, Abilene Chrisan and Incarnate Word. While the LSC has maintained a long-standing tradion of compeve athlec programs for its members, many teams and individuals have gone on to disnguish themselves on the naonal stage. Entering 2019-20, LSC member instuons have collected 79 NCAA team naonal championships since the league joined the Division II membership in 1982. The LSC conducts conference championships in 18 sports (nine men and nine women). Men’s championships include football, soccer, cross country, basketball, baseball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, golf and tennis. Women’s tles are determined in volleyball, soccer, cross country, basketball, soſtball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, tennis and golf. The conference office is located in Richardson, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. NCAA DIVISION II FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPLSC selected to host DII football championship for next three years

Following a tremendous experience in December 2018, the NCAA Division II Football Committee has chosen McKinney Independent School District Stadium in McKinney, Texas, as the host site of the 2019-21 Division II football national championship games. The Lone Star Conference in conjunction with McKinney ISD hosted the 2018 championship game between Valdosta State and Ferris State and will join forces again for the next three seasons. The NCAA Division II Championships Committee ratified the football committee’s recommendation at their February meeting. McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center, a 12,000-seat facility built primarily for football, will host the Division II Football Championship games on Dec. 21, 2019, Dec. 19, 2020 and Dec. 18, 2021.

arleton was selected to repeat as the Lone Star Conference football champions according to the 2019 LSC preseason poll

announced Monday.

The league’s preseason poll reflects the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

TSU earned first place votes on 19 of the 25 ballots for 217 total points. The Texans, who went undefeated in the regular season to win the LSC title before falling in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals, were 12-1 overall and 8-0 in league play in 2018.

Midwestern State received two first-place nods to finish second with 185 points following an 8-2 season last year.

Texas A&M-Commerce ranked third with 169 points and one top vote in front of Eastern New Mexico (130) and Angelo State (122 with a pair of first-place nods). West Texas A&M (119), Texas A&M-Kingsville (88), UT Permian Basin (67 with one first-place vote) and Western New Mexico (28) rounded out the poll.

2019 LSC Composite Schedule

The season kicks off Thursday, September 5 and the LSC has nine teams set to compete in 2019. Each team will play eight conference games to determine the LSC Champion.

Three LSC teams participated in postseason play last season, with TSU and A&M-C advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs, and ASU playing in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.

LSC Football preseason honors announced

Midwestern State’s Juwan Johnson and UT Permian Basin’s Chris Hoad were selected as the Lone Star Conference Football Preseason Players of the Year for 2019 league officials announced Monday.

MSU’s Johnson picked up Preseason Offensive Player of the Year recognition, while UTPB’s Hoad earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The league’s preseason awards were selected by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

Johnson, a 5-10 junior wide receiver from Springfield, Missouri, set a MSU single season record with 1,215 yards on 67 catches to earn LSC Receiver of the Year honors last season. Johnson collected 100 receiving yards in seven consecutive games and accounted for at least 90 yards in each of MSU Texas’ 10 games to rank fifth in Division II in receiving yards per game (121.5).

With 12 votes, Johnson was the top choice in front of six others who received votes.

Hoad, a 6-0, senior linebacker from Leander, Texas, claimed LSC Linebacker of the Year honors last year after ranking third in Division II with 133 tackles. He added 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for the Falcons.

Hoad received eight votes for preseason acclaim over 10 others that collected votes.
