Dockland History

Docklands has been used in medieval times as a small harbour. However this place was not properly guarded and thieves where common. Docklands was readopted in 1696 and a new built place was set up to shelter 120 vessels. Security became tighter as a result of readoption. This lead to being a successful and major commercial place.

As times progressed, the London Docklands became more adjusted to its name; many more vessels were heading there. This provided jobs for people living in the Docklands.

The Docks in the 20th century

Docklands was built to be managed by private companies; however it was soon taken by the Port Of London who reconstructed the dock. However they faced real problems as world war two broke out and the Docks had to be closed due to the damage.
