1000 Genomes Project

The 1000 Genomes

Project has grown to

350 terabytes of

genomic data including

DNA sequenced from

more than 2,000

individuals that

researchers can now

access on AWS for use

in disease research.

FDA Reduces Data Entry Costs from $29/Page to $0.25/Page by Using AWS

• The FDA protects and promotes public health in the US,

processing 1 million reports of adverse drug affects each

year, of which 10% are submitted manually through

emails, faxes, calls, and handwritten notes

• The agency was experiencing a backlog of reports and

needed a way to make the data entry process more

efficient and less costly, without investing in manual data

entry

• By using AWS and APN Partner Captricity, FDA could

quickly scan manual reports and turn that data into

machine-readable information with 99.7% accuracy,

reducing costs from $29 per page to $0.25 per page

The FDA partnered with Captricity to complete

this project on the AWS Cloud

We were able to scan all the

documents in the AWS Cloud

… and receive the results

back with 99.7% accuracy
