Queen's Park Report June 2012 Budget Matters: After months of bell-ringing and procedural wrangling, we were able to get all parties to agree to a vote on the Budget on June 20. These are challenging times, and the Budget will bring us to balance by 2017-18 while protecting the gains in health care and education. London Jobs Numbers: London is making steady progress on the jobs front, but there is more work to do. The May figures tell us that 2,400 more people were working last month, with the rate down to 8.3%. Clean and Green Jobs: The clean tech sector is growing very rapidly around the World. The mar-ket will be in the trillions soon. Our green energy approach has both helped clean up the air, and build a new industry here in Ontario . Over 20,000 jobs and billions in investment are directly related to our Green Energy Plan. Now, we are building on that foundation.
Smart Grid-What Is It? The smart grid is sim-ply about using technology, such as computers, to more effectively manage our electricity system. This will save the system costs over time, make it work better, and help families and businesses save money today. Smart Grid Fund: This Fund will support inno-vative companies on the leading edge of energy technology. They are helping to develop ways of using the information collected from smart meters to save families and businesses money, and to find ways to store energy. These ideas will be devel-oped here, made here and sold around the World with the help of our export strategy. That means jobs for Ontario families. For more details see: http://news.ontario.ca/mei/en/2012/06/smart-grid-projects.html Supporting Public Transit: We are continu-ing to help the LTC serve more riders over more
routes with $9.3 million in gas tax funding this year. This brings the total to $95 million in transit capital and operating support since 2003. Most of the ex-tra funding the LTC has relied on to expand routes and service since 2003 has come from the Ontario government. The Accepting Schools Act: After much de-bate, the anti- bullying legislation was passed. It builds on the good work that has been done by so many to prevent bullying. It requires all school boards to have bullying prevention programs, and supports for those bullied. Contact Me: Please let me know your advice, by phone (519) 657-3120, email at [email protected], or through my website www.chrisbentley.onmpp.ca . Chris Bentley MPP London West
INVITING VISITORS TO CANADA
Visitors requesting a “Super Visa” are required to undergo an immigration medical examination be-fore they come to Canada. Instructions on complet-ing the medical examination will be provided by the visa office. Applicants’ are not required to complete the examination before they submit the Visitor Visa application form.
At present the fee per person is $150 for a multi-ple entry visa or $75 for a single entry visa.
It is advisable to check the website of the visa office responsible for the country or region where the invited visitor lives for more information on fees, including how to pay them.
In most countries, application fees must be paid in Canadian dollars. The application must be sent to the Canadian visa office in the country or region where the individual lives. The length of time the
process takes depends on the visa office.
VISA EXEMPT COUNTRIES If the Visitor is a citizen of a country that does
not visa to visit Canada the visitor still must satisfy the Port of Entry official that the person qualifies as a visitor.
Visitors from visa-exempt countries are not re-quired to submit fees with their application for a Par-ent or Grandparent Super Visa.
All visitors’ must have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for the time spent in Canada. Normally the passports must be valid for at least 6 months. Some citizens from visa-exempt countries have to meet additional requirements, such as having a machine-readable passport or an e-passport to travel to Canada. Visitors should find out what the specific
information on passport requirements is for their country.
Here is the link to the Canada Immigration and Citizenship link for countries that do not require an advance visa to enter Canada.

THE PARLIAMENTARY REPORT FROM OTTAWA SUSAN TRUPPE, MP FOR LONDON NORTH CENTRE
PARLIAMENTARY SECERETARY FOR STATUS OF WOMEN
The month of May is almost at its end. I hope you enjoyed your Victoria Day long weekend with family and friends. As usual, I have been keeping an excep-tionally hectic schedule. Investing in London’s Seniors Recently, I was pleased to announce over $148,000 in federal funding for eight Seniors organizations in London North Centre. These investments are being de-livered through the New Horizons for Seniors Programs and will benefit these organizations by allowing them to provide musical education, engage Seniors in mentor-ship programs, expand awareness of elder abuse, pro-vide personal workshops on financial management and nutrition, purchase supplies to mentor youth with gar-dening skills, support the social participation of Seniors by creating an awareness campaign about National Sen-iors Safety Week, and deliver a writing and journaling course to share with the community. The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who make a differ-ence in the lives of others and their communities. Through the NHSP, the Harper Government encourages seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences to the benefit of others. The 2011-12 community-based projects call for proposals ran from June 20 to September 16, 2011. Pro-jects can receive up to $25,000 in funding and must ad-dress one or more of the program’s five objectives: vol-unteering, mentoring, expanding awareness of elder abuse, social participation, and capital assistance. Since its beginning, the Program has funded more than
10,400 projects in hundreds of communities across Can-ada. The next NHSP call for proposals is currently in progress. The deadline for applications is June 29, 2012. For more information on the NHSP, please visit www.hrsdc.gc.ca/seniors. For more information on the organizations receiv-ing funding in London North Centre, visit my website at www.SusanTruppeMP.ca. Canada Summer Jobs 2012: Investing in Lon-don’s Youth As your Member of Parliament, one part of my job I enjoy is providing good news to organizations across London North Centre. I was pleased to recently approve an investment of $506,032 which will in turn create 186 jobs for youth right here in London North Centre. This fund-ing was provided by Canada Summer Jobs 2012. Thanks to this investment, young people across London North Centre will be working with commu-nity organizations to greater enhance their services. Investments like these strengthen our city’s economy, and I am pleased to support the initiative. ParlAmericas Women Parliamentarian Confer-ence From May 7-11 I had the pleasure of travelling to Chile where I attended the ParlAmericas Women Parliamentarian Conference. This conference brought
together Parliamentarians from North, Central, and South America to discuss issues pertaining to women. While at the conference, I was pleased to be a Rapporteur for a panel discussion on violence against women and girls from a National perspective. Need-less to say, I was quite impressed with the dialogue and have no doubt that the concensus was clear: all Governments must continue to work hard to bring awareness of and put an end to violence against women and girls.
