2 Ekvira Devi Temple
Ekvira Devi Temple, Karle, Lonavala,

Located close to
Karla caves, the
Ekavira Devi Temple is a splendid spiritual
retreat. Ekvira Devi is thought to be an
incarnation of Goddess Renuka. She is also
known as the mother of Parshurama. The
Goddess is highly revered by the Koli
fishermen community and the local tribes. Acenter of Buddhist culture and learning, it is
believed to have been an important pit stop
for travellers and traders.
The walk to the temple is quite tiring, make
sure you wear a sturdy pair of shoes andcarry ample water. The temple has a
different aura around the special occasions
of Navarathi and Chaitra. From traditional
dances to folk music, the festivities
celebrated in the temple are a delight to
watch.
3 Lohagad Fort
Lohgarh Fort, Lonavala,

Lohagad Fort or the Iron Fort is certainly one
of the most spectacular sightseeing spots in
the twin hill stations of Khandala and
Lonavala. The narrow, zig zag steps leading
up to the fort are estimated to be about 500
in number. Enveloped in a rich historical
past, the fort was said to be used by
Chatrapati Shivaji and other dynasties which
ruled Maratha and Vidharbha kingdoms.The walk to the fort takes about 1.5 hours. If
you want to avoid climbing the steps, you
can also take an alternate route with clearly
defined paths. Completely worth the effort,
the view on top is bound to leavespeechless. If you are not bound by time,
you can also visit the Visapur fort which is
located in close proximity to Lohagad fort.
Don't forget to carry your cameras lest you
miss out on some spellbinding captured
moments.
4 Rajmachi Fort

Rajmachi Fort is actually two citadels
Manranjan and Shreevardhan forts.
Centuries earlier, these forts were built at
Rajmachi to guard the important trade
routes that linked the ports of Chaul and
Revdanda to the Maratha hinterland. Near
the base of Manranjan, youll even find
some Buddhist rock-cut caves. Elegantly
located between Khandala and Lonavala,
the Rajmachi fort offers mesmerising views
of the valley below and the surrounding
Sahyadri Range. A small trek leads one to
this long standing fort. Starting from
Tungrali Lake, the trekking trail leads you tothe fort standing on Shrivardhan and
Manaranjan Peaks. The small fort was built
to overlook the activities in the Konkan area
and offers a panoramic view of Rajmachi.
After a short but tiring trek, the first few
glimpses of your surroundings will simply
amaze you. Spend some time here and
explore the fort while taking in the fresh airand abundant greenery.
5 Tikona Fort

which served as the main source of water in
earlier days. The fort also encloses within itthe famous Trimbakeshwar Mahadev
temple along with enchanting archaic
Buddhist and Satvahan caves.
This fortress has been home for many
dynasties that ruled the Maratha region,along with being the major centre of
activities of the Pauna Mawal. The small
