Variety Show 1 March 2015 This week I lead my own warm up which included; lots of cardio to get the heart racing and stretching to increase flexibility. My strengths during this were that everyone was engaged and following the warm up. My weaknesses on the other hand is that I failed to notice the safety hazards at the back of the room. Therefore, if I was to improve this warm up, I would have to make sure I was more responsible and aware of my surroundings next time round. Amber-Lily Foxon 1 WEEK BEFORE Box of The Unorthodox

WEEK BEFORE Box of The Unorthodox

  • Variety Show 1 March 2015

Afterwards I also thought about improving my warm ups by making them more fun and adventurous, for example; taking them outside for a jog or maybe even creating an obstacle course to make it more competitive.

Stomp was our main company focus this week, as we had lots of ideas about what we could do but had previously failed to put anything together. I felt Stomp was the most neglected piece of the variety show because no one was interested in doing it. Unfortunately, I think the lack of motivation we all had towards this piece resulted in us wasting lots of rehearsal time because we focused on creating the entrance for to long. I personally got very frustrated with this because I dont think this piece was a priority for myself or the company. This lead to me having to remove myself from the piece. Stomp has taught me that you have to move material on straight away if you feel it isn't working because the less time you have before a show the more pressure you have and I believe there is no point working on something you do not believe in.

This week the company and I went around the college campus to promote and sell our variety show. We spoke to different companys about what they should expect without giving to much away. I felt like this show was easier to promote than the other shows I have done because I feel there is something for everyone in a variety show.

Worked up town funk with claire refined the moves and gave the moments more purpose and punch. I like this routine because it is fun and energised and as an ensemble routine I think its perfect for a big finally number.I really enjoyed choreographing the Up Town Funk dance with the company for the finale of the show but in the Amber-Lily Foxon 3

beginning we did experience some difficulties because we all had different ideas. Therefore this was a company weakness, it effected our rehearsal schedule and the company spirt because we lost a lot of time disagreeing with each other.

I ended up supplying most of my own costumes for this show because I had so many ideas. I wanted everything to be big, bold and colourful but unfortunately the costume department didn't have much to offer. I found that the Beyonce (S.E.X) costume was the piece that we all struggled with the most because we didnt want to feel restricted in anyway shape or form as it is very physical. The promise costumes were very pretty and they fitted the style of performance but they were physicality restricting.

The Laban efforts workshop with claire was really fun but it was also refreshing to learn something new. I feel like this workshop benefited me in many different ways. I developed an understanding of indirect and direct moments. I also experimented with them through the use of my own body. Towards the end of the workshop, I feel like I really started to go with my body and let it explore the space itself. I think my commitment and my work ethic during this workshop was a strength for me this week as I was completely engaged in the work and I feel I really pushed myself. Amber-Lily Foxon 4

I defiantly feel the eight basic Laban actions have had an effect on the way I move. I believe these actions have influenced me physically and mentally because Im now more aware and in tune with my body and my actions. This workshop has inspired me to want to be more direct with my actions because I feel Im someone who is naturally very relaxed and physically indirect. Therefore, I need to improve and work using my space in a more direct way to help me find a balance between both forces light and strong.

At the end of the week Alex and I worked on the Bouffon routine but charley was absent which made it difficult for us to finish it and put it all together. I think we need to improve this routine by adding more facial expressions and through making everything bigger. Today was the first time we rehearsed it in costume with the padding and I felt it completely changed the way I moved within my physicality.I feel very stressed out and tired because there is so much to do with so little time and I think this is having a negative effect on the company. A company weakness this week is a lack of optimism and professionalism. I think everyone is becoming lazy and this is effecting my performance and energy in the room.

We also discussed a running order this week. It was difficult to place because you have to think about the number of routines everyone is in, costume changes and interludes.

S.E.X has been the most difficult challenge for me so far throughout this process because it's so different to anything Ive ever done before. It isnt just a dance, it is a sex/burlesque themed performance which involves lots of audience interaction and vocals. I find this style of performance very out there and seductive which is what I like but it is also very intimidating because you have to be more than confident within yourself to portrait these characters. The confidence is something I am currently struggling with because weve been focusing to much on the choreography and not enough on the actually performing. What I found most difficult this week was experimenting with different vocals and creating orgasm noises because the environment I was in just made me feel very uncomfortable.

I think as a company were in a good place at the moment but the show is approaching very quickly so Im starting to feel the pressure. I personally want to work more on S.E.X and develop my character more. However, I think Stamp and The Promise are the ones that need the most work and readjustments because they arent finished.
