Grandmaster Alex Onischuk had played in several international tournaments in Lindsborg, so he suggested to Karpov that it would be a good place to train. Karpov was impressed with the town and its people, so it was no surprise when he decided to establish his first U.S. chess school in Lindsborg. Karpov has established schools in 15 countries.

Today Bethany is a small, private college that provides students personal attention within a caring community. The student body is highly engaged in learning both inside and outside the classroom. Bethany offers a wide array of academic programs. Its education, art, music, biology, chemistry and campus ministry programs are well-known and highly regarded and its athletic teams are serious competitors that have won many NAIA awards. All students are encouraged to explore and deepen their own faith, as they find and follow their paths in the world. MapS

Lindsborg is one of America’s best small towns. Lively and livable, it enjoys sharing its Swedish immigrant and Great Plains heritage. We have nearly 150 years of distinction in agriculture, higher education, and the visual and perform-ing arts. Combining this with its walkable and bike-able scale, Lindsborg is a great place to grow.

Youthful ideas and priorities help shape the future here. A successful 21-year-old operates a well-regarded coffee shop and wholesale bean roastery. Bethany College alumni launch their own businesses and practices, families and personal endeavors here. Young makers have a place here, too -- founding new crossroads for the fine arts, crafts and the spirit of continued learning.

Lindsborg feels larger than its 3,500 residents — and yet small enough to make your very own. Come join in.
