Peabody balances security and access control with Mul-T-Lock
Mul-T-Lock's patented MT5 Security Range is being fitted to properties belonging to Peabody by DES Locksmiths, to solve the
issue of allowing easy access for contractors and safe homes for residents, as part of the housing association's Quality Homes
Programme.
The Peabody Group, one of the oldest and largest housing associations in London, owns and is responsible for more than
19,000 homes across the capital. It is currently working to improve security measures for residents, to provide quality, well-
maintained homes that residents can be proud of and where they feel safe.
DES Locksmiths recommended Mul-T-Lock's MT5 security range, which is available as a master key system, to provide high quality protection for residents' homes, whilst
allowing Peabody and key contractors to maintain access control.
Mul-T-Lock's MT5 cylinder range is based on a well-honed telescopic pin mechanism from the leading lock security locking company and incorporates Alpha Spring, a new
patented technology located at the tip of the flat key, to increase key protection.
Says Karen Daykin Woodberry, Building Services Manager for Peabody: "Balancing resident security with managing key control and access for residents and contractors is
a challenge of social housing providers.
"Moving to a master key system like Mul-T-Lock's MT5 solution has proven to be a simple and intelligent way of upgrading our control and the security level of our
properties, whilst also solving key management issues. This way, we can remain
committed to ensuring our residents live in clean, safe and well maintained estates and communal areas."
MT5 has now been fitted to properties across Peabody, with an additional 4,000
padlocks in the master key system, which are used throughout the estates.
In addition to offering high security to all Peabody's properties, MT5 is the first cylinder in the UK to be supported by a unique key authorisation magnetic strip card. This card must be presented to a registered MT5
locksmith before any additional keys can be supplied to ensure tight control of key duplication.
Nicky Crossman, Works Manager of DES Locksmiths, commented: "We demonstrated to Peabody how operating a master key system will not only lead to greater efficiencies, but also ensures only authorised people can get a key cut, using our dedicated
MT5 key cutting machine. Consequently this prevents the production of unauthorised duplicate keys, ensuring Peabody and its
residents can be sure exactly who has keys to their properties."
Mul-T-Lock's MT5 range consists of two complementary mechanisms that operate independently, yet, in combination, provide
enhanced key security and greater resistance to cylinder manipulation.
Matt Rice, Marketing Manager at Mul-T-Lock, concluded: "What DES Locksmiths has demonstrated is that even small considerations such as upgrading cylinders to enable a master key operation, can make a significant difference to the security
arrangements of a social housing provider such as Peabody. And by choosing MT5, added benefits include protection from
cylinder manipulation, patented key control, and the balance of easy access for contractors and peace of mind for residents."
The MT5 range is offered by Mul-T-Lock (UK), which offers a number of high security patented key systems that offers industry leading levels of legal protection against unauthorised key duplication, suitable for most home or office applications.
