Get ready to have a giraffe in Worcester this summer! A technicolour tower of glorious giraffe sculptures has hoofed it into the city – each standing proud through its streets, parks and open spaces in an unmissable art trail for you to enjoy.
Worcester Stands Tall welcomes 30, 8ft tall giraffes decorated by artists and 27 cute calves – carefully crafted by schools and community groups – into the city for 10 weeks, offering you the chance to embrace your inner explorer and discover each giraffic gem in a fun and free art trail!
At the end of the trail, each giant giraffe will be auctioned to raise money for the St Richard’s Hospice Build 2020 Appeal - a project to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.
St Richard’s Hospice - caring for lifeBased in Worcester, St Richard’s provides free specialist palliative and end of life care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones.
“Coming here, talking to people and realising you are not alone is incredibly important. Having a warm, homely and calm space where we can sit and talk will help me feel better”Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,300 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.
The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the hospice’s existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m. To find out more and donate visit strichards.org.uk/build2020
Let’s have a giraffe-tastic summer in the city for St Richard’s!
Come and see our calves!Alongside our giant giraffe sculptures is a collection of 27 cute calves, decorated by schools and community groups as part of our Learning Programme.
Each calf sculpture is displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre, Worcester – while one will be on show at Worcester Cathedral. Don’t forget to unlock the calves in our app!
Thanks to the generous support of our Education Partner, West Midland Safari Park, schools from across the county have stuck their necks out and learned about giraffes with specially themed lessons across all subjects!
“When we heard about the Worcester Stands Tall campaign, we knew we had to get involved as it brings together businesses, local communities and schools, all for a great cause. With the theme being giraffes and the park being home to a breeding herd of giraffes, who better to partner with the project than us!”
Ivan Knezovich, Managing Director - West Midland Safari Park
Download the Worcester Stands Tall app!Record your progress with the app as you explore the trail, discovering and ‘unlocking’ each giraffe sculpture along the way.
