This is the house used within the possession film ‘The Conjuring’, looking at this location gave us inspiration for our own

location within our Horror film ‘The Chosen One’. The old house looks ghost like and when looking at it, the audience

feel spine chilling. This is a good example of the codes and conventions for the stock locations within Possession films as

this is what the audience expect to see when watching one. Abandoned homes in areas where there is no one around

sets the scene for the film, the audience are left wondering what has happened in this house and what history is holds.

Houses like the one used here always hold some of the narrative structure and the audience are always told of

something that has happened in the past such as suicides, murders or other horrific events. The audience then realise

that it is in fact the spirits of these murdered/dead characters that are coming back and haunting the family and the

house. The bushes surrounding the house could connote fire as they seem to be aflame, this suggests to the audience

that this house is danger; it is a warning sign not to go into this house. This and the fact that there is a noose hanging

from a tree in front of the house which again suggests death in this house, and what I know from the narrative there

was a mother who killed her child then committed suicide herself.

This stock location has been taken from the film ‘Insidious’, this location it another conventional stock location as it is in

a rural area where there are many other houses around. This then becomes effective and allows the audience to lose

their safe sense of security as they then believe that this could happen to them as this is an everyday house that they

live in. The stock location in this instance adds to the scare factor as the audience become indulged to the film and feel

as if they are now the protagonist. The trees and buses surrounding the house enclose the house in a little and make

the house seem a lot spookier and surrounded. The single light on the porch way makes the house seem darker and a

lot more sinister as the audience are unable to see what is going on inside the house, and none of the rooms lights

seem to be on yet the porch light is and no one is there to trigger it off. I felt this was an appropriate stock location as

the house we were planning to use was similar too this and after seeing it being effective in ‘Insidious’ we wanted to

achieve the same in our film ‘The Chosen One’.
