Location Scouting:

As a group, we decided to delegate responsibilities. So for location scouting, we all choose a destination in which we thought would

be suitable for filming. I went to South End pier Nicola visited Apsley Lock and Chloe went to Grove Hill lake

Pros: The location is beautiful, calm and relaxing – considering our genre is pop/soul our main aim

to fit into the right target audience is to create a cool and calm atmosphere, the sound of the waves in the background help portray this, plus the beach, sand and pier is what people generally symbolise as a peaceful atmosphere and therefore will fit in perfectly with the genre

The Fairground - this creates a happy and joyous surroundings plus its unique Busy atmosphere – considering it will be October when we film, there won’t be as many

people in the background as we thought, although we want the shot to feel down to earth and natural, therefore the busy surroundings will help portray this

Looking at Jason’s music video ‘I’m Yours’ and Taylor Swifts ‘Mine’ (my inspirations), they have focused on using outdoor locations and there are clips in each music video of the beach, therefore to target the right audience this may be the best opinion.

Cons: Weather – the weather is a big issue here although we would like to film on a preferably sunny

or over cast day, however if it rains we may need to consider postponing filming due to the pier may being close and damaged equipment, plus our characters won’t be too thrilled about coming out in the rain. As it is unlikely to have sunny weather, we may need lighting.

Health and safety – this destination is around 40 minutes via train away from where we live, therefore if we get into trouble it won’t be easy to grab help, plus we won’t have a supervisor or parent with us and as we are filming by the sea, it could be dangerous in certain weather conditions

Transport – transport is a big issue as it can be expensive considering none of us can drive as this moment trains or buses will cost a lot of money. Although we have come to a conclusion of getting a train up to South end Victoria which will cost roughly £17 each, and this money will come from bursary from the school (confirmed with our head of year).

Pros: Easy to get to as it is only around the corner from where we live, therefore scheduling

would be easy and if we needed to re-shoot any aspects of the music video it will be assessable to do.

Quiet relaxed location – this I complete opposite to south end pier which love because it will enable us to easily convey the down to earth person we are representing.

This location offers a diverse surroundings (cottages, a lake, boats etc) – this is a unique location due to these exclusive features which will make our music video characteristic

Cons: Weather – once again weather is a big issue because if it is raining (which it will mostly

likely be) then equipment such as cameras, lighting etc will get damaged, and considering they are not our equipment we need to take good care of it.

Health and safety – this is a vital issue due to working near a river/lake and this can be dangerous if we are not careful, although because it is quite close to home we can easily seek parental guidance.

Doesn’t meet the modern target audience – the location is quite in some words, old school and may not meet the modern audience of teenagers, therefore using south end will allow us to create a vibrant, up-lifting video due to the accessibility of the beach, pier and fair ground.

Grovehill Lake

Pros: Easy to get to as it is literally next door to our school, therefore this will enable to film

during school hours. Plus if the weather is bad, we can hold of the filming until the rain stops.

Children playing in the background – meeting the needs to the older generation, plus give our character, Conrad a friendly, happy go lucky personality.

Transport - considering it is located next to our school money for transport will be limited due to us being able to walk there in under 5 minutes. This means that we can spend transport money of necessities such as clothing, props, etc.

Cons: In the over cast/raining weather, this location can look quite dull and dismal; therefore will

create a bleak and not very joyous atmosphere we are hoping to gain. In south end we have the ability to use the fair ground, therefore this will help us create

that ‘fun’ music video, whereas if we use this destination we will have to make do with what we got and considering it is only a field, this may be difficult.

Conclusion:

As a group we have chosen South end pier because we have easy accessibility of the beach, fair ground and pier, therefore it will create the fun, exciting atmosphere that the two other location did not offer us. This is a unique and diverse location as the Apsley Lock and Grove Hill are very similar, whereas south end pier was most eye-

catching and attention grabbing. Our objectives now is too research into costs, dates and bursary funds, this will enable us to choose a suitable date for filming and it will

give us enough time to let our models know.
