The earth, the solar system, the universe

We all know that we live on the earth, it is our home, it will probably be our home for the next 3 billion years, until earth collides with the sun, but that’s another story. If you are watching this PowerPoint presentation it means you are conscious of your carbon footprint (the impact you have on the planet & climate change) so you are going to try and be more energy efficient in everything you do, wether it being washing the dishes, drying your clothes, getting from a to b, lighting etc . Because all of these tiny things stack up to create ‘global warming’ but what's Gippsland's part in global warming??? More importantly, what’s yours?

What is global warming?Global warming is the average temperature of the earth rising, it does this because as we move aheadAnd advance in technology, in Creating and using new technology We use power, and to make that power we use power plants, making power to power the products we create, in making this power we Create greenhouse gases, the greenhouse gases then thicken our ozone layer, therefore trapping the suns rays inside earth causing the temperature to rise, appliances we use can also contribute to global warming & or carbon emissions.

Page 5: ‘Local warming’

how do we make greenhouse gas?

Greenhouse gas comes as a waste from the burning of most common fossil fuels ie: petroleum (petrol for short) that we use in our cars.

Page 6: ‘Local warming’

Why is global warming so bad?

Global warming is bad because, if greenhouse emissions keep rising, then the ozone layer will get thicker, and the earth will gradually get hotter, and if it keeps on getting hotter, then eventually the polar ice caps will melt, therefore flooding the world, a big theory, but its pretty plausible.

What does this mean?

It shows that our local power station (loy yang) has had a 1.5 percent increase in greenhouse gas output.

What are some other sources of energy? Some other sources of energy are:

•Solar energy•Geothermal energy•Hydro energy•Tydal power•Wind energy (right)

You can check out how some of these energies work by visiting this link

The Toora wind farm(yes this photo was taken by me)

What can I do to help??You can help everyday by:RECYCLE!!! Find programs near you; there should be lots of options.

•toner cartridges •aluminum cans •newspapers •2 liter plastic soda bottles •milk jugs •steel containers •organic material/cuttings •glass •telephone books For other examples visit This link

Thankyou for watching!

• I hope that this power point can show you what global warming is all about, and what you can do to help.
