Local Scholars ProgrammeBali 2016
A core mission of Green School is to nurture a community of learners that
supports each other and the environment, now and in the future. As an integral part of the
local community, our school strive to strengthen the connection with the Indonesian families
of our village, and beyond throughout the Local Scholars Programme.
The Local Scholars Programme, was the first community empowerment initiative of Green
School, founded in 2008. The program initially supported 18 local students to attend Green
School as full time students, now we have 27 students enrolled (8% our students).
These Indonesian students are talented, passionate and bright young minds who are the
country's next generation of green leaders.
Our mission at Green School is to deliver a generation of global citizens who are
knowledgeable about and inspired to take responsibility for the sustainabilityof the world.
We have bamboo construction in Bali for centuries,
we learn it from our ancestors, one generation after
another, but local people think bamboo houses are
for people who cant afford one.
They see bamboo as a poor material, so when they
have some money they want to build a house made
of concrete. So when we go to Green School and see
all those amazing bamboo buildings we feel
inspired to do the same in our village, we under-
standit can be a noble material that we can plant
in our farms and use to build our houses.

Why we need your help?Your support of the non-profit Yayasan Kul Kul (known internationally as Green School Bali.
Inc) through the Local Scholars Programme is crucial to the growth and development of the
programme. As a private international school in Indonesia we face certain challenges such as
lack of support from the Indonesian government.
The funding for the Local Scholars Programme relies 100% on the support of individual and
corporate sponsors. We believe the future of this country and the world depends on having
young people educated and challenged to be creative, innovative, green leaders.
To support the LSP is an opportunity to take part of an worthwhile cause with long lasting
impact in Bali and beyond. In the future we hope to see our community grow and expand byaccepting more local students in the programme.
We are confident that by joining our hands together, we will make it happen.
In order to continue, we need your support.
