Sirs, I wish to register my strong opposition to the proposed reduction in the number of Councillors who will represent Herefordshire on the Local Government Boundary Commission. My opposition is based on the following points:

The reduction in the number of seats will increase the current workload of councillors and impact on their ability to cope with an enlarged area especially if they have additional parishes to cover.

Reforms to the Police and Health authorities will result in even more work for councillors. I believe this to be unknown territory which has not been assessed, nevertheless it should be acknowledged.

Joint working of the three parishes in my home area - the current ward of Burghill, Holmer and Lyde - is an example of a successful community working together for the benefit of residents. Why change something that is such a success? To do so would be to the detriment of the three parishes.

Your feedback: I do not want the number of our council members to drop. They are essential as a way of communicating the publics views to the up levels of government. If we have any less our views will be even more difficult to get heard. If the government truly want the feel good factor in communities they will need to keep lines of communication open. The cost of councilors must be much less than lots of other things, from new council buildings to town links to foreign countries, from high wages at the top to lots of new computers.Cut back on those first before destroying personal communications.

I am more concerned by the situation with the Parish council in Bromyard. We have 18 councillors representing an electorate of about 2000. This means that there is never an election as this would require 19 people to stand. Total negation of democracy. Is the

I write with regard to the proposal to split up the the joint parishes of "Burghill, Holmer and Lyde" in such a way that we will loose our most excellent councillor, the Independent Mrs Sally Robertson.

Mrs Robertson has, during her tenure, worked tirelessly for the benefit of her ward, the three parishes of Burghill, Holmer and Lyde. She has brought the three parishes to work together, to share resources, to have joint meetings, to promote dialogue between and within the parishes and to share the same visions for their future.

Why would on earth would the Herefordshire Council Working Group (HCWG) and/or the Local Government Boundary Commission want or need to break up this ward, which has enjoyed 9 years of stability and progress. Why should the HCWG want to remove our Independent Councillor, or for that matter the other Independent Councillors, from office when she has done such a sterling job? What sensible and HONEST reason has the HCWG for splitting up this ward or these three parishes?

I cannot support the proposal and would appreciate if my opposition the proposal is considered before any final decisions are made.

Your feedback: No councillors should be sacked! It must be regarded as discrimination to select victims by their political persuasion or lack thereof. An independent councillor is of far more use to the people who elected him/her as one would assume they are above party politics. Who would represent the people who like to elect an independent candidate?
