June is always a planning month in the school district, but this year is a little different. Planning for the reopening of schools in August is something the Breckinridge County School District is taking very seriously. School district leaders are engaged in weekly meetings in an effort to ensure we develop a plan that meets the needs of our students and families. Surveys were sent out Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 26 in an effort to give everyone an opportunity to share his/her thoughts about the reopening of schools. Fortunately, almost 2,300 par- ticipants responded to those surveys, and we are using that feedback to guide our reopening plans. I realize that these are anxious and uneasy times for our students, parents/guard- ians, staff members, and Breckinridge County community members. Our school district is supported with great pride within the Breckinridge County community. Let me assure everyone that we are developing reopening plans with two main pri- orities. Those priorities center around the health and safety and education of all our students. Our schools are developing plans to address areas like health and hygiene, student social and emotional needs, possible remote learning, alternative student schedules (A/B days), lunch and breakfast, and extracurricular activities. The school district will collaborate with Breckinridge County Health Department Director Scott Shrewsberry and his team throughout the summer to ensure that reopening plans are as safe as possible. Restarting athletics in Kentucky has been a major topic lately. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) is allowing athletics to slowly start back this summer. School coaches are allowed to meet with their players in groups of no more than 10 through Sunday, June 14. Workouts for high-contact sports and practices for low-contact sports can begin Monday, June 15 through Sunday, June 28. Both foot- ball and basketball have been identified as high-contact sports, so no sport-affiliated equipment can be used for those workouts. Low-contact sports can resume compe- tition Monday, June 29. This does not include school against school competition. KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tacket doesn’t have any answers for anything past June 29. Please continue to participate in school district surveys, and share your advice on the reopening of schools in August. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. These young- sters perfect their craft at the Breckinridge County Community Center and head out into the state to show their strengths on the courses they play. Several kids from Breckinridge County recently placed in their age divisions at the Go Junior Series of Tournaments at the Central City Country Club. In the girls eight and under, Kynedy Moorman shot 16 and won by 6 strokes in her age group. Kynedy re- mains undefeated this season with back to back wins. In the boys 11-12-year- old division, Lemuel Wright shot 47 on 9 holes to win by one stroke. In the girls 11-12-year-old division, Adelynn Moorman shot 49 in 9 holes to win by 13 strokes. Adelynn is also undefeated this season. In the boys 14-15-year-old divi- sion, Shelton Smith again won low medal- ist honors by shooting 76 (41,35). Tiger golfer Mercer Rogers came in sec- ond place with an impressive 18 hole score of 84. Shelton and Mercer were the top two golfers out of 15 players in their age divi- sion. Insight on Education
By Superintendent Nick CarterSummer weather is upon us in Breckinridge Coun-
ty, and we are glad to experience it. June is always a planning month in the school district, but this year is a little different. Planning for the reopening of schools in August is something the Breckinridge County School District is taking very seriously. School district leaders are engaged in weekly meetings in an effort to ensure we develop a plan that meets the needs of our students and families.
Surveys were sent out Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 26 in an effort to give everyone an opportunity to
share his/her thoughts about the reopening of schools. Fortunately, almost 2,300 par-ticipants responded to those surveys, and we are using that feedback to guide our reopening plans.
I realize that these are anxious and uneasy times for our students, parents/guard-ians, staff members, and Breckinridge County community members. Our school district is supported with great pride within the Breckinridge County community. Let me assure everyone that we are developing reopening plans with two main pri-orities. Those priorities center around the health and safety and education of all our students. Our schools are developing plans to address areas like health and hygiene, student social and emotional needs, possible remote learning, alternative student schedules (A/B days), lunch and breakfast, and extracurricular activities. The school district will collaborate with Breckinridge County Health Department Director Scott Shrewsberry and his team throughout the summer to ensure that reopening plans are as safe as possible.
Restarting athletics in Kentucky has been a major topic lately. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) is allowing athletics to slowly start back this summer. School coaches are allowed to meet with their players in groups of no more than 10 through Sunday, June 14. Workouts for high-contact sports and practices for low-contact sports can begin Monday, June 15 through Sunday, June 28. Both foot-ball and basketball have been identified as high-contact sports, so no sport-affiliated equipment can be used for those workouts. Low-contact sports can resume compe-tition Monday, June 29. This does not include school against school competition. KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tacket doesn’t have any answers for anything past June 29.
Please continue to participate in school district surveys, and share your advice on the reopening of schools in August. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal or me with any questions you have about the reopening of school in August. Together, we are going to build a plan to bring our students back in August and remain Breck Strong!

Local Golfers Succeed in Central City
Breckinridge County is home to some of the state’s top junior golfers. These young-sters perfect their craft at the Breckinridge County Community Center and head out into the state to show their strengths on the courses they play.
Several kids from Breckinridge County recently placed in their age divisions at the Go Junior Series of Tournaments at the Central City Country Club. In the girls eight and under, Kynedy Moorman shot 16 and won by 6 strokes in her age group. Kynedy re-mains undefeated this season with back to back wins. In the boys 11-12-year-old division, Lemuel Wright shot 47 on 9 holes to win by one stroke. In the girls 11-12-year-old division, Adelynn Moorman shot 49 in 9 holes to win by 13 strokes. Adelynn is also undefeated this
season. In the boys 14-15-year-old divi-sion, Shelton Smith again won low medal-ist honors by shooting 76 (41,35).
Tiger golfer Mercer Rogers came in sec-ond place with an impressive 18 hole score of 84. Shelton and Mercer were the top two golfers out of 15 players in their age divi-sion. Lincoln Smith made progress on low-ering his 18 hole score but was outside of medal contention with a score of 95.

The Breckinridge County Board of Education will receive bids for blacktopping, sealing and striping through Fri-day, June 19, 2020 at the Breckinridge County Board of Education until 2:00 p.m. CST, at which time all bids will be publicly opened and read aloud. A recommendation to the board will be made at the June 30, 2020 meeting of the Breckinridge County Board of Education.
Bidding Documents, including specifications may be obtained at the Breckinridge County Board of Education Central Office at 86 Airport Road, Hardinsburg, KY 40143.
The Owner reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Bids received after the scheduled closing time for the receipt of bids will be returned unopened to the bidders. No bid may be withdrawn for a period of sixty days subsequent to the opening of bids without consent of the Breckinridge County Board of Education.
