Gardiner Montana unveils new brand and marketing strategy to build four season visitation. Gardiner, Montana – September 15, 2016 -- The Gardiner Montana Chamber of Commerce / Convention and Visitors Bureau today unveiled a new brand strategy, logo and marketing program designed to accelerate the growth of four season visitation to the Yellowstone gateway.

Gardiner’s Fall, Winter and Spring occupancy has been steadily increasing, with a 22% increase in the first quarter of 2016, and a 43% increase in the second quarter. Building on the global awareness generated by the Nation-al Park Service Centennial, the investment of more than $22 million dollars of improvements through the Gardiner Gateway Project and the ongoing strengthening of the Gardiner Montana business community, Gardiner is becoming an even more attractive destination for Yellowstone National Park visitors.

To continue that growth in a manner that sustains the character and charm of Gardiner, the Chamber of Com-merce / CVB unveiled a new brand strategy positioning Gardiner as “Nature’s favorite entrance to Yellow-stone National Park®.” The brand was developed in partnership with local Chamber of Commerce members, and was based on consumer research that identified the proliferation of wildlife, the historic Roosevelt Arch, the appealing drive through Paradise Valley, and the authentic family owned lodging, restaurants, shops and outfitters as the most appealing aspects of Gardiner to prospective visitors.

In addition, Gardiner will focus marketing during the shoulder seasons on the strongest and most differentiat-ing aspects of the offering – the dramatic elk rut in the fall; the opportunity to experience a winter wonderland in Yellowstone, and the emergence of wildlife and their young in the spr ing with “baby season.”

The brand is expressed in a new logo that will be used across marketing elements and will be available for Chamber of Commerce/CVB members to use in their own marketing programs. The new brand strategy has already been rolled out to consumers, with Point of Sale materials distributed to businesses throughout Gardi-ner this summer inviting visitors to return for the Fall, Winter or Spring seasons. A new consumer facing website is under development and will launch shortly, (www.visitgardinermt.com) along with online and more traditional marketing all aligned around the new brand strategy.

“We’re increasingly becoming a four season destination, with more businesses open year round than ever be-fore.” said Barbara Shesky, Executive Director of the Chamber/CVB. “This winter we’ll have more than 26 lodging properties, 9 restaurants, our local grocery store, numerous shops and a dozen outfitters eager to help visitors explore the Yellowstone winter wonderland.”

REAL ESTATE Yellowstone Deputy Superintendent Steve Iobst to Retire

MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY - Steven F. Iobst, dep-uty superintendent of Yellowstone National Park has an-nounced his retirement after over 42 years of continuous service with the National Park Service (NPS). He will re-tire September 30, 2016. Iobst was appointed deputy superintendent of Yellowstone National Park on August 14, 2011. He directed day-to-day operations of the 2.2 million acre park, supervising the largest park operations program in the NPS. Operations include emergency medical, law enforcement, search and rescue, science and research program, business manage-ment that includes $120 million annual commercial activi-ties, resource education, youth programs, wildland and structural fire programs, as well as contracting, property control, and human resources. The annual park operational budget is $34 million. The annual program of projects av-erages $40 million. At peak season, 850 employees work in the park. During his tenure at Yellowstone, Iobst has led partner-ships with leadership in the Federal Land Highways Pro-gram and with local and state governments in order to de-velop park road improvements, including the Beartooth Highway. In conjunction with the Yellowstone Park Foun-dation and their corporate donors, Iobst improved opera-tions and sustainability for park facilities. Iobst began his career with the NPS as a student engineer in 1971 at the Eastern Service Center in Washington D.C. In 1974 he accepted his first permanent position as a civil engineer at the Denver Service Center after receiving a B.S. in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. As a designer and construction supervisor he was responsible for facility improvement projects in over 40 parks, which included short-term assignments at Shenandoah, Yosemite, Acadia, St. Gaudens, Gateway, Fire Island, and the Virgin Islands national park sites. He practiced engineering at Yellow-stone beginning in 1979 in the maintenance and conces-sions management operations and worked directly for the superintendent overseeing planning and development. He left Yellowstone in 1988 and became the chief of facility management at Rocky Mountain National Park. He also served as the acting chief of facility management in Wash-ington, D.C. in 1996. In 1997 Iobst returned to the greater Yellowstone area as the assistant superintendent at Grand Teton National Park and served as the acting superinten-dent at Grand Teton from November 2000 to February 2002. Iobst returned to Yellowstone in 2003 as the chief of maintenance directing the largest park-based asset manage-ment program in the NPS. Although Iobst spent half his career in Yellowstone, he values the experience gained in park operations at other parks and the privilege of being involved in design and construction projects in numerous NPS sites in the North-east. In June of this year he received the Department of the Inte-rior Meritorious Service Award. NPS Director Jonathon B. Jarvis noted that Iobst, “Made significant and ongoing con-tributions to both facility and park management issues…and led efforts to improve the visitor experience while pro-tecting the resources of the park.” Iobst was presented the award by Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk. Upon receiving the award Iobst commented, “Don’t ever let it be said that an old friend can’t still surprise you.” Steve and his wife Debbie, a successful swim coach, have three grown children - Allison, Benjamin, and Steven - and four grandchildren. Shortly after retirement, Steve and Debbie plan to travel to several national park sites and to every major league ballpark in the country. They will re-side in Jackson, Wyoming to be near their grandchildren.
