Message from Fr. Joe

The event in our gospel this weekend, “The multiplica-

tion of the loaves and fishes,” is one of the most extraordinary

miracles Jesus did during his earthly ministry. Even though we

were not there 2,000 years ago to be fed by the hands of the disci-

ples, this miracle is also one of the most meaningful for us today.

It shows us clearly that when we give Jesus even what little we

have, He can multiply it to do wonderful and miraculous things

for us and for others. Yes, if we offer our own meager resources

to the Lord, if we place them at his service, he can work through

them beyond all our expectations. All the Lord is asking from us

is to be generous with what we have, little as that may be, and He will work with our generosity in ways

that will surprise us. Let us remember that God’s way of working is different from how the world works.

As Saint Paul has said, “The Lord’s power is often made perfect in our weakness.”

Yes, sometimes in our weakness, our tendency is to feel overwhelmed. Just like the disciples in

our gospel today, we start to doubt ourselves asking the questions… How can we give if we don’t have

enough? What will we ever do with only five loaves and two fishes? Today, Jesus tells us to “Bring them to

me.” Offer your meager resources and I will do the rest.

My dear friends, the story of the multiplication of bread and fish is not only about the wonder of

its miracle, but it is also about our act of generosity. We may feel that our contribution may be small and

not enough, but starting small gives us a great opportunity to do more. This may sound profound, but “our

journey of a thousand miles always begins with just one step.” This simply means we have to start some-

where in order to do something great.

My dear brothers and sisters, this week and for the weeks to come, let us continue to take satis-

faction in giving rather than receiving so that we keep our focus on others and not on ourselves. We do not

have to feed all five thousand on our own, but with our little and generous gift… Christ can make wonders

and transform our small offering into something great that everyone can share.

Fr Joe

HEALING AFTER ABORTION

Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past

abortion? There is always hope. The pain and sorrow of

abortion does not need to endure for a lifetime. A “Day of

to begin the journey of healing the wound of abortion. For

“The hand of the Lord feeds us,” we sing in today’s responso-

rial psalm, and today’s readings attest to this proclamation. In

Isaiah, the LORD invites everyone to share in food and drink.

In the Gospel, Jesus invites the crowds to stay and feeds thou-

sands with five loaves and two fish. Neither hunger nor thirst,

poverty nor want, famine nor distress can separate us from the

love and generosity of the Lord. Let us listen to God’s word

knowing that we are invited to the feast as well.

Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra-

ment. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-

mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You

as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Pope Francis’ Prayer to Mary

During Coronavirus Pandemic

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a

sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust

ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at

the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping

your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman

People, know what we need, and we are sure

you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy

and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine

Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by

Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our

sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection.

Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not

disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every

danger, O glorious blessed Virgin.

PRAYER FOR HEALING AND

PROTECTION AMIDST COVID-19 CRISIS

Lord Jesus, at your command, the sick were made well! Come to

our aid now, in the midst of the Global spread of the Corona Virus,

that we may experience your healing love.

Heal those who are sick with the Virus. May they regain their

strength. Heal us from our fear, which prevents us from working

together and with one another. Heal us from our pride, which can

make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.

Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty, sorrow and fear. Be

with those who died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in

peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As

they worry or grieve, defend them from illness and despair.

Be with the medical professionals who seek to heal and put

themselves at risk in the process. Be with the leaders of all nations,

give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the

wellbeing of everyone.

Lord, stay with us as some of us mourn, as many of us try to

endure, persist, struggle and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give

us your peace.

Lord Jesus Christ, heal us and protect us. Amen
