•Taylor enthusiastically performed and dramatically sang for her fans.

•What are the two adverbs in this sentence? Write them down!

Let’s look at the other ways adverbs are used . . .

Taylor Swift sang outside. (where)She performed Saturday. (when)The crowd clapped loudly. (how)Taylor never stopped! (to what extent)

Adverbs can modify adjectives

• It was an extremely crowded concert. (The adverb “extremely” modifies the adjective “crowded”)• The exceptionally talented Ms. Swift kept

on singing! (The adverb “exceptionally” modifies the adjective “talented”).

Some tips to identifying adverbs . . .

• Many (but not all) adverbs end in -ly. • For example, “nicely”, “loudly”, or “quietly”.

• You try it . . . change each of the following words into an adverb:

• bold mad• foolish lazy• slow nervous

And there are adverbs that DON’T end in –ly!
