Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
W elcome! We are glad you are here to join us in worship in the celebration of the Eucharist (Mass). At the Eucharist, the Church comes together to hear the Word of the Lord, to pray for the world's needs, to offer the sacrifice of the Cross in praise and thanks to God, to receive
Christ Jesus in communion, and then to be sent forth in the Spirit as disciples of the Gospel. If you are not familiar with the Mass, the Order of the Mass can be found on pages 3-29 of the Breaking Bread hymnal. We call particular attention to the text of the Gloria on page 6 and the Nicene Creed on page 9. The scrip-ture (Bible) readings for today's Mass can be found on page 189

Question of the Week:
When will you “come away” with Jesus this week?
Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time We are a “tuned in” people. Connected to the world 24/7. The blessing of being able to keep in touch with friends and family, and keep up with “breaking news” has its draw-
backs. In this environment it can be hard to hear God’s voice. Today’s reading has the perfect antidote. Jesus said to the apostles, “Come away by yourselves to a de-serted place and rest a while.” Not everyone can go away on retreat, but most of us can carve out some time, even just a few minutes in the day, to sit with the Lord. If there is an Adoration chapel nearby, stop in. Sit and rest in the love of God!

Pope Francis: Laudato Si - On Care for Our Common Home
“There is a tendency to believe that every increase in power means ‘an increase of “progress” itself’, an advance in ‘security, usefulness, welfare and vigour; …
an assimilation of new values into the stream of culture’, as if reality, goodness and truth automatically flow from technological and economic power as such. The fact is that ‘contemporary man has not been trained to use power well’, because our immense technological development has not been accompanied by a development in human responsibility, values and conscience. Each age tends to have only a meagre awareness of its own limitations. It is possible that we do not grasp the gravity of the challenges now before us” (#105).

Suffering and illness have always been among the greatest problems that trouble the human spirit. Jesus understood and shared in that suffering, but his passion transformed pain and death into the glory of the resurrection. Our life in him helps us grasp the mystery of suffering more deeply and bear our pain with greater courage.
Although Christians have always anointed and prayed for the sick, our celebration and even our understanding of the sacrament has changed throughout history. Today, many Catholics are not sure what the sacrament is, when it should be celebrated, and who should participate. As a result, some people who would benefit from the sacrament do not request it, avoid it, or participate in non-sacramental healing services, believing them to be a sacramental rite of the Church.
Beginning the weekend of August 29-30 at Holy Family Parish and at Star of the Sea Parish and on the last weekend of every month thereafter, Father will call upon those who are in need of receiving the Anointing of the Sick at the end of each Mass.
If you have already received the sacrament and are not sure if you can receive the sacrament again, the church says that the sacrament may be repeated if the recipient suffers from a different illness or injury, or if the same illness or condition becomes more serious. Elderly people may be anointed if they have become weakened even though no serious illness is present.
For more information, “Anointing of the Sick” pamphlets are located at the back of the church.

On the first weekend in August, please bring a bag or two of gro-ceries as you come to Mass, and place at the entrance to the Church. Cereal; juice boxes; vege-
table, fruit, tuna, and chicken canned goods; as well as snacks
for kids; and personal care products for families are all
needed, especially as kids get ready to head off to school. For more than 200,000 children in Massachusetts, skipping a meal is not a choice: it is a very real part of their daily lives.

If you have a child entering the first grade and your family is not already enrolled in our religious educa-tion program; please contact Kathy in Religious Edu-

SUMMER PRAYER
Creator of all, thank You for summer! Thank You for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight. Thank You for the beauty I see all around me
and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my family and friends, and for the more casual
pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or
what I am doing. Warm my soul with the awareness of
Your presence, and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
Amen
