Special Power Point Presentation on Stalin’s Gulag Prison System

Join Resident Klaus K. on Tuesday, September 1, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel for an interesting hour long Power Point Presentation. Klaus will present his perspective on his father’s life and experiences in Stalin’s Gulag Prison System, 1947-1954.

Klaus was born in Königsberg, East Prussia, Ger-many. Today the city’s name is Kaliningrad, Russia. He immigrated to Florida in 1953. In 2001, Klaus retired from the active clergy ministry and has been living at St. Mark Village since 2013.

There’s Still Time To Participate in the Faux Face Mask Decorating Contest

Calling all creative minds! There’s still time to join in our first ever Faux Face Mask Decorat-ing Contest on Wednesday, August 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel! Our panel of Resident and Team Member judges will award fabulous prizes to the three best faux face mask designs.

If you need help getting started, come to the Hobby Room where you will find samples of masks and precut paper (in the shape of a mask) available to you. You may use plain white paper and fold it into the shape of a mask—then deco-rate your mask in a quirky, fashionable, and funny manner. You may use all sorts of things to deco-rate your entry—greeting cards, bric-a-brac, ear-rings, jewelry, yarn, markers, sequins, etc. These masks are for fun, so you will still need to wear your regular mask to protect yourself and others. Residents who plan to decorate a mask are asked to please let Ellen know by calling the Hobby Room at extension 1743.

Residents who created masks and would like to participate in the contest will be asked to enter the Chapel one at a time and walk down the center aisle to the front, turn and face the audience, and then have a seat in the one of the first three pews.

Please be advised when you are attending any activity in the Chapel the pews are marked with social distancing decals in the pews to designate

where to sit.

Johnny Carson: Carson CountryGreat Music, Big Laughs!

Come to the Chapel on Monday, August 24, at 6:30 p.m. to see vintage Carson Country classic clips from the “Tonight Show” starring Johnny Carson.

Rediscover treasured memories with some of Johnny’s favorite country stars! These priceless and collectible moments feature great music by The Judds, Dwight Yoakam, Buck Owens, and many others. You’ll be sure to enjoy the very rare, collect-ible kinescope from 1964 of Johnny Cash performing “Ring Of Fire.”

You’ll also see some vintage homespun humor as Ronn Lucas lays claim to the title of “fastest ventrilo-quist in the west,” and comedians Brett Butler and Blake Clark make their “Tonight Show” debuts.

Watch as Johnny disarms Sheriff Katherine Crumbley, and shares laughs with Merritt Heaton, the world’s oldest farmer. Witness “A Bonaza Of Coun-try Legends” as TV legend Michael Landon recalls a “hair raising” tale from behind the scenes of “Bo-nanza.” The Lone Ranger’s loyal sidekick Tonto (Jay Silverheels) needs a new job pronto and everyone’s favorite cowboy, John Wayne, stops by for a surprise visit.

These 1964-1991 classic clips are 1 hour and 20 minutes long and will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Not Rated.

We are going to postpone this live perfor-mance until a later date and look forward to a great show in the months ahead.

Kids In ChurchA mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson... ‘If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, ‘Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.’ Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, ‘Ryan, you be Jesus!’

A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, ‘Would you like to say the blessing?’ ‘I wouldn’t know what to say,’ the girl replied. ‘Just say what you hear Mommy say,’ the wife answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, ‘Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?’

Wednesday, August 26, 2020 LuminousLook how the topaz sunlight

Fills up your little cracks,And makes you luminous.

Embellishing your beautiful self Or as medals,

Reminding you of the battles you won. —Purbo Chakraborty
