Dr. Lopez graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, in 1989, and obtained his specialisation in Odontostomatology in 1993.

He is author of several scientific articles on prosthetics, implantology and regenerative methods.

He regularly gives lectures and presents at congresses in Italy and abroad, currently he is a senior lecturer of the State University of San Marino. He holds a patent for implant shapes and burs.

Dr. Lopez works in his private practice in Rome, exclusively in the area of reconstructive prosthetic surgery and implantology.

RECONSTRUCTION OF ATROPHIC CRESTAL RIDGE WITH THE BONE LAYER TECHNIQUESpeaker: Dr Michele Antonio LopezMD, DDS, Rome - Italy

PRESENTATIONThe Bone Layer Technique allows for the horizontal and vertical regeneration of atrophic crestal ridge using a resorbable Cortical Lamina, a collagenated biomaterial and a collagen membrane.

When the vestibular and/or lingual bony wall is missing, a full thickness flap is released and the Cortical Lamina is fixed with titanium pins.

The defect is then filled with collagenated biomaterials (e.g. mp3®) the occlusal surface is covered with an Evolution collagen membrane.

Flaps are then sutured with minimal tension, in order to allow for optimal blood clot stabilisation.

The advantages of Cortical Lamina are multiple: the transformation into the new cortical plate in 6-8 month, the stabilization of the graft in a very short time.

Suggested re-entry time is at 6 months, while the full resorption takes place in around 12 months.

After a brief summary of the scientific evidence behind augmentation procedures, participants will have the opportunity to observe a didactic, live surgical procedure.
