How High They Go The International Space Station goes around

the Earth at 17,500 mph. It orbits Earth once every 92 minutes. During every orbit the astronauts get about 46 min of light and 46 min of darkness. They will see the sun will rise and set 16 times a day.

ROBOTIC ARM

Canada has made the ISS`s robotic arms.

How Astronauts Train UnderwaterThe astronauts train for being in space in a

huge pool in Houston, Texas. Hundreds of people apply to be astronauts, but only a few are selected every two years.

How they get suppliesThe ISS gets its supplies from a resupply

spacecraft that comes from Earth.

Growing Plants In Space

Scientists grow plants on the ISS to learn about how plants grow in space. We hope that someday we might be able to live away from the Earth. We would need a way to feed ourselves.

How Astronauts EatAstronaut

food is canned or Freeze-dried. This is because the ISS does not have a refrigerator.

Exercising In Space.Astronauts live in

zero gravity, so their bones and muscles become weak over time. They work out on a special exercise bike and treadmill to build up their muscles and bones. They also lift weights.

How astronauts sleep The crewmembers aboard the ISS sleep

while floating in microgravity. Astronauts attach a sleeping bags to the wall and sleep in that. Astronauts are scheduled for eight hours of sleep a day because every 90 minutes the sun sets.

What astronauts wear and how they clean up

In space astronauts wear comfortable clothes they change every three days.

They throw their clothes away that they have worn.

They use wipes (like baby wipes) to wash themselves.
