"Miracle on Ice"

Gold medal to besold.

"The gold medal symbolizes my personal

accomplishments and our team's accom-

plishments being reached," wrote Wells. "As

one of only 20 players to receive this gold

medal, it has held a special place in my heart

since February of 1980.

"When I decided recently to offer it out . . . I

also decided until the day I give it up, it will

be worn. Therefore, I have slept with this

medal for the past two weeks now in my

home ... I hope you will cherish this medal as

I have."

Castinetti said he has never seen an item this

unique up for sale in his time in the business.

Stanley Cup rings and other awards won by

players are auctioned every year, but the gold

medal, from one of the greatest sports stories

ever told, is one to be treasured.

Mark Wells, the last player added to the 1980

U.S. men's national hockey team, stunned

the Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice" and

went on to defeat Finland for Olympic gold

at the Lake Placid Winter Games in New

York. Once again, Wells is part of history

once more.

Wells' Olympic gold medal will be up for

auction, making it one of the rarest collecta-

bles in a still-booming market of "Miracle"

memorabilia.

Wells, drafted in 1977, retired in 1982 with-

out ever playing in a game. Wells developed

a genetic disease that attacks the spinal cord

discs which has affected him since the mid-

1980s. Wells sold the medal to a Connecti-

cut memorabilia collector a few years ago

due to personal hardships. That collector has

now put the "Miracle" medal on the market.

Phil Castinetti, owner of Sportsworld, Inc.,

in Saugus, Mass., is helping to a find a buyer.

Castinetti hopes Wells' gold medal will sell

for around $125,000. There are only 20

medals out there. If no buyer is found, it will

go to auction.

FORECLOSED

One of the obstacles to purchasing foreclosed

properties is finding them before other people

do. A realtor with experience helping clients pur-

chase bank foreclosures can assist you by

showing you foreclosure houses as soon as

they officially hit the market.

The foreclosure market can be difficult and ex-

pensive to navigate on your own. Many web-

sites offer foreclosure listings but they usually

come with a monthly maintenance fee. The

process is often complicated by pesky snags in-

cluding liens, obligatory repairs, and back taxes.

Foreclosure realtors specialize in utilizing vari-

ous valuation methods that will satisfy the bank,

tax assessors, as well as their clients, which will

help you save time and money.
