We are delighted that we are the 5th best school for attendance in Birmingham with an overall absence rate of just 2.3%. For information on other local schools follow the link below. https://www.familiesonline.co.uk/local/birmingham/in-the-know/best-and-worst-attendance-revealed -birmingham-sutton-coldfield-schools Sutton Charities Uniform Grant— Grants towards the purchase of school uniform are available for parents in receipt of some benefits. Please collect a form from, or speak to, a member of staff in the school office. Forms must be returned to school, with proof of benefits received by Friday 27th April. Science Projects We have been really impressed with the standard of the science projects handed in today. We had 34 fantastic entries! This year's optional project was entitled 'Marble Run' and some of our children spent their Easter holidays taking part in the challenge. They had to create a device no higher than 1m tall which keeps a solid glass marble in continuous motion. The contraption had to be portable and be able to run a number of times. Staff and pupils were excited to see all of the interesting and innovative projects and two of our governors, Mr Hammond and Mr Griffiths had the tricky job of judging the competition. Winners will be announced next week in assembly and put forward to the Trust stage of the competition. They commented how much thought and planning had gone into the projects and enjoyed speaking to the children during the morning. Well done to all of our entrants, it is great to see so many of you engaging with science and technology outside of school. Author Visit On Wednesday, Years 3, 4 and 5 were delighted to welcome the author James Bishop into school to share his debut book 'Iguana Boy Saves the World with a Triple Cheese Pizza.' James shared the process of becoming an author- he went to University to study creative writing and then worked very hard for ten years trying to get one of his books published. In 2016, he entered ITV Lorraine's Top Tales competition, where he was a runner up. The assembly began with James sharing some of his favourite superheroes (Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman) before he explained that they had inspired him to create his own characters with special powers. During the afternoon, KS2 children were asked to design their own superhero which would be entered into a competition to create a new character for a future book. Lily, Hayden and Harry's designs were chosen and Hayden's is the final design that will be used to represent our school. Hayden's character, called Jeff, has super strength, can throw ladders and is a super jumper. At the end, James read the first chapter of his book. The children then had the opportunity to ask questions and purchase a copy of the book. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about James' inspiring career as an author and we are excited to read his first book, which sounds very funny and includes some great illustrations. The book is also available to purchase from Waterstones.

Author Visit On Wednesday, Years 3, 4 and 5 were delighted to welcome the author James Bishop into school to share his debut book 'Iguana Boy Saves the World with a Triple Cheese Pizza.'

James shared the process of becoming an author- he went to University to study creative writing and then worked very hard for ten years trying to get one of his books published. In 2016, he entered ITV Lorraine's Top Tales competition, where he was a runner up. The assembly began with James sharing some of his favourite superheroes (Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman) before he explained that they had inspired him

to create his own characters with special powers.

During the afternoon, KS2 children were asked to design their own superhero which would be entered into a competition to create a new character for a future book. E-Safety Tip of the Week Vishing is a type of phishing scam that happens on the phone. The word vishing is a combination of ‘voice’ and ‘phishing’. These are unsolicited phone calls from fraudsters which encourage you to give out your personal details, such as your card, PIN, Mobile Banking App activation/passcodes or card reader codes. The fraudsters pretend to be your bank, the police, or any other official company in order to get your personal information. They may have some of your personal information, such as name, address, or phone number, to make them seem genuine. These calls will often seem urgent to get you to act as quickly as possible, giving you minimal time to think about whether the call is fraudulent. The atmosphere and background noises can help the calls seem more convincing. Sometimes you may get a 'warm up' call where no information is discussed. This is to set the scene for a later call where you may be asked for information.

The word of the month is concealed

Bedtime stories – Internet safety Below is a link to a YouTube clip aimed at parents to make them aware of the dangers of online bullying and the effects that it can have on your children. It is quite a hard hitting clip and we would recommend that you DO NOT watch it with you child.

We are very fortunate at Little Sutton that our children on the whole are very well behaved and sensible. In their naivety though we have had examples of children sending what can be very hurtful messages to other classmates. https://youtu.be/yuqlg_pyZks

Sports Report On Wednesday evening Mr Williams and Mr Storer accompanied 20 Year 2 children to an athletics competition at Bishop Vesey School. The children maintained outstanding teamwork and skill throughout and were full of enthusiasm. Their excellent performance resulted in a first place finish for both the boys and the girls. Inevitably this led to an overall triumph. For many of the children, this was their first time representing the school. Well done to all the pupils - we are exceptionally proud of you!
