# On Feb 2,2012 3rd and 4thgrades studentshad a Book Swap.
The Book Swap was very similar to theBook Drive that Kindergarten through 2ndgrade had in December. All 3rd and 4th gradestudents received at least 2 books.
# # # On the Tuesday andWednesday before the Book Swap, 3rd and 4thgrade students were able to bring in books to
donate to the Book Swap. Students who brought inmore than four books were able to take home more
books on the Book Swap day. For everytwo books that they brought in they received
one extra book. If a student brought in 10 books theyreceived 5 books. Around 90 books were brought in bystudents for the book swap.# # Approximately 375 books were given out tostudents on February 2nd. The goal of both the BookDrive and the Book Swap is to get books into the hands ofthe students. So far this year the program is off to a greatstart. The only reason this has been possible is with thehelp of the community and staff donating books andhelping on the day of the events. Special thanks to all themothers that came in on those days to help our students.
First graders celebrated Day 100 by bringingin 100 items from home and counting them 2s, 5s, and 10s. They worked with a buddyand had fun grouping them. They also did awriting about what they would do with ahundred dollars. They came up with someinteresting ideas. Check out the first gradehallway to see them!100

1. Never give your name, address or phone number to anyoneonline.2. Never agree to meet anyone you've connected with online.3. If you feel uncomfortable about something you find on theInternet, tell a parent or teacher right away.
These are the three lessons our children learned about being safewhen going onto the Internet when Special Agent Janine Holter
joined FA March PTA at the Easton Library in February to bring a
poignant presentation on Internet safety. The PTA invited parentsof Easton School district to attend this important program.
In presentation for children and parents, Special Agent Holtershowed three movies starring Faux Pas the Techno Cat who madesome pretty unsafe decisions while on the Internet. The kids foundthe movies entertaining, but also got the point: the Internet is awonderful place that can have some scary parts, so use your brainand be safe.
A separate presentation for parents showed two real-life situations in which teenage girls met people
online. One survived to tell about her experience and is slowly rebuilding her life. The other teenagerdid not survive her encounter with an online friend. Although frightening at times, the presentationgave parents some suggestions for handling the strong influence of technology in our kids lives, aninfluences none of us had to deal with when we were young.
Among the suggestions for parents to keep their children safe on the computer:1. Do not allow you children to have Internet access in their rooms, including computers, iPhones
and ereaders. Children should connect to the Internet in a public space in your home where youcan monitor their activities.
2. If your child has a Facebook page, require them to Friend you and monitor their page often.3. Contact local authorities if you think your child is being harassed or bullied online.

Students at F.A. March and all of theElementary Schools across thedistrict had the opportunity to
participate in the 2nd Annual MLKProject on Jan. 31st, 2012. This was acollaborative effort between National Honor Society, NationalJunior Honor Society, EAHS chapter of NAACP, GiftedDepartment, and the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. HighSchool students travelled to each Elementary School in Eastonto read a book and compete a project based around the theme ofpeace to grades 2-4.
A book was read anddonated to each classroom
library entitled, My BrotherMartin by Christine KingFarris. Written by Martinsolder sister, it is an accountof the events that shapedMartin as a child. It is anNAACP Award Winner anda Child Magazine BestBook of the Year.
The older students guided the
2nd, 3rd and 4th graders throughcompleting a dreamscape of apeaceful world. Students wereasked to think about people whoinspire them to be peaceful andthings that they can do to maketheir community a happier, morepeaceful place for people to live. This gave them an opportunityto dream a dream that will turnthis world upside down, just likeMartin. The second project allowed the students to make thankyou cards for soldiers that have been wounded in battle. Thesecards will be distributed through the Wounded Warrior Project.
Projects were displayed in the school near each classroom andthe letters will be sent off to soldiers. After the project wasfinished, 3rd and 4th graders were given a Martin Luther King t-shirt of their own. The kids were excited to participate in such ameaningful project and we look forward to another great
opportunity next year!

Demonstration ConcertThe F.A. March Band and Orchestra presented aDemonstration Concert to their family and friends onMonday February, 6. During the concert theydemonstrated what they sounded like when they startedto play their instruments and the steps they wentthrough to begin to play music as a group. The highlightof the evening was when they played a piece of musicwith harmony. The evening was a huge success and wehope all who were in attendance
gained a greaterappreciation for the processof learning to play a musicalinstrument.
