description

A Malaysian inventor has successfully invented a light weight steel grating system recently. He called it Litewalk. Grating are commonly used on oil rigs, refineries, petrol chemical plants, power plant and any other industrial facility that’s require industrial walk ways. The inventor uses the same steel material as those used in common grating but he has successfully improved the design and made Litewalk unique where it is able to save its weight by 35%. This comes along with the saving of material also by 35%, which resulted in making the finish product for Litewalk cheaper than those found in the market. The design of Litewalk has an arch shaped, thus making it stronger. Litewalk grating is able to take 12% more load. More importantly, this new design has multiple round embossed rings on the surface. And this provides the traction on our feet when we walked-on it. This anti-slip design has made Litewalk grating the safest grating in the industry. This invention was designed in collaboration between the inventor and a well known local university, ie. University Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. The research and testing was carried over 2 years and the project is now completed. Litewalk grating has passed all major industrial standards in relation to grating and stair treads. Grating is a mature product used in the market for a hundred year and it does not require any promotion. Hence, with the unique feature created by the inventor, Litewalk grating is geared to eat into the present market. Present market leader for grating like British company Webforge has a sales turn-over of GBP 200.9m (USD 319m) and has achieved profit after tax of GBP 21.3m (USD 33.8m) for 2008. The inventor has recently issued a License to a Malaysian company Wangco Engineering Sdn Bhd to commercialize this new invention. This license allows Wangco Engineering to manufacture and market this new product in Malaysia and all ASEAN countries. At this juncture, the inventor is looking for suitable company to take a similar license to manufacture and market in other parts of the world.
