LITERATURE INTERPRETATION WITH COSPACES Lesson complexity: Medium/Average user Introduction: Literature classes tend to be less visually engaging, but with CoSpaces, students can bring their favorite novels to life and make them more vivd, relatable and engaging. You can make 3D literature in numerous ways; for example, have your students create a summary - they can reduce a piece of literature to simple, exemplary scenes or even condense the plot so that it is represented into one scene. CoSpaces also allows the creation of a 3D setting which can be especially interesting for theatre performances; students can create stage designs and explore them in a simulated reality - students can even build a structure or location from a novel! Finally, students can use CoSpaces to portray the relations between the characters and create their own figure constellation; with the VR feature, it’s even possible to take on a character’s point of view! Benefits: Foster divergent thinking Improve digital literacy Practice how information can be displayed and processed most effectively Activity examples: 1. Introduce the literary piece to your students. 2. Decide if they should be working toward a summary, creating a 3D setting or designing a figure constellation. 3. Ensure your students have a clear understanding of the literature. 4. Provide a different scene to individual students’ and let them recreate it. 5. Allow some time for students’ to share, view and critique each others work.

LITERATURE INTERPRETATION WITH COSPACES

Lesson complexity: Medium/Average user

Introduction:

Literature classes tend to be less visually engaging, but with CoSpaces, students can bring their favorite novels to life and make them more vivd, relatable and engaging.

Benefits:

• Foster divergent thinking • Improve digital literacy • Practice how information can be displayed and processed most effectively

Activity examples:

1. Introduce the literary piece to your students. 2. Decide if they should be working toward a summary, creating a 3D setting or

designing a figure constellation. 3. Ensure your students have a clear understanding of the literature. 4. Provide a different scene to individual students’ and let them recreate it. 5. Allow some time for students’ to share, view and critique each others work.

CREATION GUIDE The cha l l enge w i th l i te ra tu re interpretation is creating a concept - this is why it’s important that students understand what they have read. Th e y ’ l l n e e d t o h a v e a g o o d understanding of the text in order to think in abstract terms which will help them translate literature into 3D images.

With set-building it is the other way around: it’s a lot easier to come up with a place and create it in detail. Since some objects might not be ready built, students also have the chance to familiarize themselves with customizing objects or using the flexible shapes.

Literature can play with difference perspectives and the same can be done with CoSpaces; for example, a hidden secret in the novel can be v isual ly represented by having something hidden in a box, or characters that don’t interact well within the story can be placed back to back in a 3D figure constellation.

Virtual reality is a very interesting approach to exploring perspectives. With it, you can experience a literary settings from the inside or even take on the point of

view of one of the characters.
