VCOP

• VCOP can be used to set a literacy target for extended pieces of writing. If you are asking to students to present an argument, for example, you could ask them to focus on connectives – “Use connectives to show different points of view”.

• You can use VCOP as part of the redrafting process – they can be used to create EBIs to develop the accuracy and effectiveness of writing.

• When students have finished a piece of writing, ask them to refer to their VCOP stickers to see how their writing can be improved.

A reminder of expectations

• Close mark only extended pieces of writing• You do not need to close mark it all – a paragraph

or two is sufficient• TuT should be used to enable students to

correct their errors• Make subject specific vocabulary your focus• WWW and EBI should be subject specific – you can

add a literacy EBI to extended pieces of writing• Don’t ignore common errors• If many students make a common error, give

examples and information about how they need to improve

• Corrected spellings should be copied out 3 times

Page 4: Literacy Marking

Use the school marking codes

• Students should also use these for peer and self assessment.• Correct spellings for less able students. Spellings should be written

out 3 times.

Examples of marked work

Shrek is a really good film. The voice for Shrek is by Mike Myers. The voice for the donkey is Eddie Murphy. The donkey is funny. It has a princess, a dragon and a handsome prince. It has everything you want. Shrek is about to be thrown out of his house. The princess gets captured. He tries to rescue the princess. It is great to watch because the effects are good.
