What is ?ReadAbout is a computer-based program that helps

improve students’ reading skills and build their vocabulary.

Your student will be watching short videos to build knowledge about a topic, then reads a series of high-interest nonfiction passages related to the topic.

Students then complete a comprehension check about each passage, and are given vocabulary practice with the word that appear in the passages.

The computer program is designed to adapt to your child’s reading ability to ensure that the passages he or she reads are on the “just right” level.

What is ? Your child will also be completing the Scholastic

Reading Inventory, a classroom-based assessment designed to evaluate students’ reading ability.

It involves reading a series of short passages and answering questions about them.

The test is taken on the computer and the results will generate a Lexile level for your child.

The Lexile score can be used to find books at an appropriate reading level for your child.

Students will take an SRI test at least once a month and you will be informed of your child’s progress throughout the year.

What is ? Another component of this class includes a

program called Reading Counts, an independent reading program with a library with thousands of best-loved titles.

Through this program, we will be able to track what your child is reading independently.

Reading Counts involves choosing books to read and taking quizzes on the computer to check comprehension.

With your support, we can help your child become a lifelong reader!
