Listening Teaching Using Audio CD

In general, listening teching using CD can use the Three-stage technique (P-W-P technique):

• Pre-listening

• While-listening

• Post-listening

Suggested listening strategy

Text type: Narrative (Story)

Class: X, Smt 1

Time : 45 minutes

Skills focus: Listening, speaking & writing

Procedure:

Pre-listening

Aims: Identify studuents prior knowledge

1. Ask students about their experience in listening to story or watching story film on TV

2. Ask them to describe the given pictures related to the story, usingthe questions below:- What does the man look like?- What is he doing?- What do you think of him?- etc.

3. Ask them to work in pairs to write a short description of the picture using their answer to the given questions

While-listening

Aim : Students are able to practice

listening skills (like identifying

specific information)

Procedure:t0

1. Ask students to listen to the CD (see Practice 10 in Contextual Learning)

2. Ask them given questions to answer the given questions ( Practice 11)

3. Ask them to discuss and check their answers by listening again to audio CD

4. Ask them to listen again to the audio CD, then ask them to guess ‘How the story will be ended’

Post-Listening

Aim: Students consolidate what they have learned from the listening text

Procedure:

1. Ask students to work in a group of 4 or 5

2. Ask them to discuss the story they have listened. Use the following questions:

- What is the story about?

- Who are the characters in the story?

- Where does the story take place?

- What lesson can you learn from the story?

3. Ask them to rewrite the story using the story map below:

- Title of the story: _______

- The beginning : ___________

- The middle : _________________

- The end : ___________________
