RAILWAY TELEGRAPHS This is a fascinating part of Victorian Philately which is only now beginning to develop as information from the proof books becomes available. Issue dates were England 30 June 1870, Scotland 10 March 1870 and Ireland 28 February 1871. At first the English ones were small circle (16mm), but if they needed to be re-issued, the size of the circle was increased to 23 mm. They were all withdrawn on the introduction of the “lozenge” shape in 1892 unless they had been handed back earlier as many were. Even ones issued to busy stations are rarely seen especially as, if it was a busy station for telegrams the cancel was withdrawn and replaced with a CDS. 350 3d SG 103 Plate 10 lettered BH.
