She received a BA degree from Loyola Marymount University College of LiberalArts in 1979. Her published books include On Gold Mountain : the one-hundred-year odyssey of my Chinese-Americanfamily (1996), a NY Times Notable Book of 1995, and Flower net (1997), which was an Edgar Nominee for Best FirstMystery. She has also collaborated on books with her mother Carolyn See and John Espey, together using the pseudonymMonica Highland. These books include Lotus land (1983), 110 Shanghai Road (1986), Greetings from Southern California(1988) and Precious cargo (1990). See worked as a freelance journalist for various publications, including TV Guide andSporting Times. For many years she was the West Coast correspondent for Publishers Weekly. In addition to writing booksand articles, See wrote an opera libretto based on her book, On Gold Mountain, and assisted in mounting an exhibition,based on the same book, for the Autry Museum of Western Heritage.Scope and ContentCollection consists of correspondence, manuscripts and manuscript drafts, screenplays, treatments, articles, clippings, andother printed materials related to the literary career of author Lisa See, covering the years 1973-2001.
