• Operating system is an intermediary b/w user and computer hardware.

• It's provides conveniently & efficiently environment to user.

• An os controls or help in the allocation of resources and services such as memory, processors, devices and. Information.

• In a simple word i can say that :-

• os is a program that run from start of pc to

• Linux was developed by Linus Torwalds Of finland, who currently owner of linux trademark.

• linux is an os which is developed by a collaboration , it means no company is responsible for its development.

• Using open source code of LINUX KERNEL,Company have been developing os based on LINUX KERNEL.its called "linux distributions".

History Of LINUX $ UNIX

Page 8: Linux

Unix os was developed by Ken Thompson & Dennis Ritchie at AT&T bell Laboratories in 1969 and first released in 1970. Its is not a multiuser os.Multiplexed Information and Computing Service (Multics).

So,UNIX was rewrite in 1973 by c language.

IN 1983,Richhard Stallman started the GNU PROJECT(free cost)with the goal of creating a free UNIX.

BUT,HE was fail to make UNIX GNU.

Another free os project was started in 1977,by Berkeley software

distribution (BSD). But due to lack of support .UNIX was not become free. And its become a commercial product by :- HP-UX, SunOS,AIX,etc.

Stability Linux systems are well known for their ability to run for years without failure; in fact, many Linux users have never seen a crash.

Windows servers must often be defragmented frequently, that's all but eliminated on Linux.

Linux OS is Virus Free?• No! No OS on this earth can be ever be

100% immune to Viruses and Malware. But still Linux never had a widespread malware-infection as compared to Windows.

• Linux is architecturally strong and hence very much immune (not totally) to security threats.

Some Know Linux Threats:-ViruesTron horsesLocal ScriptsWeb ScriptsWormsTargeted AttacksRootkits, etc.

Most Hacking Tools Are Written for Linux:-Well over 90% of all hacking tools are written for Linux. Of course, there are exceptions like Cain and Abel and Havij, but those exceptions simply emphasize the rule. Even when hacking tools such as Metasploit or nmap are ported for Windows, not all the capabilities transfer from Linux.

Linux Is Open SourceUnlike Windows, Linux is open source. What that means for us is that the source code of the operating system is available to us. As such, we can change and manipulate it as we please. If you are trying to make a system operate in ways it was not intended, being able to manipulate the source code is essential.
