MAINTENANCE WORKS UPDATE
Progress! 5/6L, 6W and the Preps are now back in their renovated classrooms.
We’re still waiting on some display boards to be installed along with some
moveable bag trolleys but otherwise, the rooms have been made ready for
students and teachers to return. Rooms currently under renovation are 5D, 5R,
5O, 6R and 6B. Classes have been relocated whilst the rooms are repainted and some minor
maintenance works are carried out. The ICT lab is also being repainted and recarpeted.
Repainting of the library will commence after the classrooms have been handed back. The
staffroom also is now under renovation. It’s been a juggle with class relocations over the last four
weeks. Amazingly, everyone has been very accommodating of the changes and the level of
cooperation across the school with students and staff has been remarkable. Everyone deserves a
big pat on the back!!! Not long to go now.
OPEN MORNING
We had over one hundred and fifty parents, grandparents and prospective parents visit us
yesterday for Open Morning. It’s always a pleasure to welcome visitors to our school and Open
Morning is a great way to see our school at work on a ‘normal’ day. Not that living with building
works and renovations is in any way ’normal’ however, the school day just goes on as normal and
we readily work around interruptions as would have been observed yesterday. Our School
Captains and House Captains did a wonderful job of meeting and greeting visitors and showing
newcomers around the school. Visits to our classrooms showcased students & staff productively
engaged in a range of learning tasks related to either English, Maths, Science, Art, Music, Phys
Ed or integrated studies. The weather was kind too, such a lovely morning! Our PFA mums were
also on hand with a welcoming refreshment. Thank you to our students, staff, parent helpers and
visitors. Open Day at GK was one in which you couldn’t help but feel proud to be a part of a great
school!
CYBERSAFETY PARENT NIGHT - Are you planning to attend?

What’s the session about? An expert in cybersafety issues will do a presentation aimed at
making parents much more informed about the safety of children in an online environment and the
things that can and do happen, especially when there is very little restriction on and supervision of
children’s use of digital devices. Don’t wait until something happens, find out what to be aware of
and how you can help to safeguard your child in an online environment.

WORKING BEE
On Sunday 18
th May a small group of very dedicated staff, students and parents produced a fantastic outcome for the
school with the development of a seating area near the gr 3-5 rooms for students to eat their afternoon snack. The area was transformed from a barren area to one in which the school and students can be proud of. A power of work was completed with seats and retaining walls being constructed, shrubs planted, edging formed, top soil and chip bark spread. It was great to see so many children pitching in helping their parents out. A big thank you to Jai Lincoln for his assistance in planning and coordinating the project, to Daryl Wade for his expertise in managing the construction of the boxed seating. Thank you to Jill Ramsay and Carol Kovacic for cooking the bbq and Leanne Tingwell for her assistance on the day. Thank you to the following families for your terrific contributions – Anquetil, Smith, Wade, Browne, Alder, Kouranos, Haynes, Charalambous, Kovacic, Alder, Forbes, Conlon, Duncan, Turner and Bai families The special movie ticket was won by the Wade family.

CyberSafety Parent Night Wednesday 28th May, 7:00pm
Can you honestly say you are sure of what your child is experiencing and
is exposed to online?
Studies show that many children are simply not telling their parents or carers if they are bullied or experience an unwanted ap-
proach, because they are afraid of being banned from access to the internet and their social networks.
Did you know that more than a third of children regularly using Facebook are under the age of 13?
Did you realise that MPGs (Multi Player Games) such as Call of Duty have a chat room style interface?
Did you know that Club Penguin is open to any age group to join?
Please come to this important evening. Listen to the ACMA expert and ask him how you can keep your child safe online.
If you haven’t already done so, please notify your child’s teacher or the GK office if you are planning to attend this event.
Leigh Fatchen
(on behalf of the ICT Committee)
If you have room you could add the reply slip again.
Please complete the attached slip to indicate your attendance at this important event.
I /we will be attending this important Cybersafety Parent Information session to be held on Wednesday 28th May.
