• Continuation of successful ORIENT project (2007-2010, 2.5 Gbps link, over 25 substantial scientific and educational collaborative projects and programmes using the ORIENT route)

• Providing connectivity and services for research and education sites in Europe and China

• ORIENTplus connectivity is jointly funded by China and Europe: 2011-2012 (CERNET, CSTNET), 2013-2014 (EC, EU NRENs)

• ORIENTplus will maintain and further develop existing high capacity connectivity (with aim at 2x2.5 Gbps or 1x10 Gbps).

• ORIENTplus is going to support IP traffic as well as applications demanding guaranteed bandwith

• ORIENTplus provides open and equal access for all European and Chinese researchers

• Services and tools like perfSONAR, eduroam, Bandwidth on Demand will be deployed to facilitate usage of ORIENTplus infrastructure,

• ORIENTplus will allow close cooperation between Chinese and European researchers by enabling high speed communication for key research projects
