Just Published !After many years of performing in a wide range of senior

management (CEO/ GM/ COO/ Business Advisor) positions across a diverse range of businesses and industries, and not wanting to “go to the grave” having not shared what I know about what it takes to survive and thrive in the real world of business, I have written this book to hopefully stem the failure of particularly smaller businesses which start-up…and provide commerce graduates and seasoned business people alike with a “Plain English” tool kit which reflects proven best business practices based on my commercial experiences to date.

Operating Budgets – how one naturally flows into the next. How to achieve growth by means other than relying on your own

Take Home Messages…N.Z. businesses need to re-discover their passion for setting

and pursuing strategic direction…create definitive road maps for developing commercial capability and growth.

N.Z.’s potential to increase its commercial prowess on the world stage is going to continue to be hampered unless individual businesses start looking at themselves differently and at least trial new/ different practices which are proven to work.

We need to challenge the validity of the “traditional” business model – and have some courage to trial different structures that have the potential to deliver stability, sustainability and growth.

Take Home Messages…The culture of a work place is hugely influential in

determining business success.N.Z. becoming increasingly a risk-averse nation is

arguably one of the greatest factors holding N.Z. back from competing more successfully in the commercial realm on the world stage. Fear/ anxiety is counterproductive to achievement.

The speed at which an organisation will evolve positively, depends on its: resource capacity and allocation, people competencies, structure, desire/ will to change…and culture.

Take Home Messages…Those businesses that allow politics to reign supreme and

frustrate the act of making practical sensible decisions, are those that tend to lag behind the pace of other businesses which instead focus their energies/ time/ efforts on making well informed practical decisions in the best interests of the given organisation…not individuals.

Take Home Messages…There is no dispute that tertiary education providers are

instrumental in equipping people to become business people. However, I would like to see these providers take a more

holistic approach in providing commerce knowledge and skills…and include a greater component of course content which focuses on proven practical ways to operate and manage businesses…most of this practical knowledge base is actually about humanities (learning how to initiative, foster and encourage positive human interaction which gives rise to a workplace culture that is defined by principles such as collaboration, cooperation and inclusivity; and which ultimately leads to happy people working productively)
