• Gas giant like Jupiter.

• Does not have as much gravity.

– Saturn is the least dense planet in our Solar System, mostly hydrogen and helium, two lightest elements in the universe.

• Saturn is not perfectly round like most of the other planets.

– Like Jupiter and Earth, Saturn is wider in the middle and more narrow near its top and bottom.

• Saturn’s rings are only half a mile thick.

• 7 categories of rings made up of particles of ice, dust and rocks.

• The rings are held in place by the 53 moons and 9 unofficial moons that also orbit Saturn.

– Largest moon is Titan, 2nd largest in solar system.

– The gravity of these moons also cause the gaps in between the rings.

Saturn Mythology

• Saturn was the Roman god of agriculture.

• Saturn was known as Cronus by the Greeks.

• Saturn is the son of Uranus and the father of Jupiter.

• Saturn overthrew his father (Uranus) to become king of the gods, but was then overthrown himself by his son (Jupiter).

• Saturn is known as father time.
