Enbridge has been transporting North American crude oil to U.S. refineries through underground pipelines for decades safely and reliably. The safe operation and maintenance of our pipelines is Enbridge’s top priority. Built in 1954, Line 2B is a 26-inch diameter pipeline that is part of the Enbridge crude oil pipeline system known as the Mainline System. Line 2B is a 326-mile pipeline that runs from Gretna, Manitoba to Superior, Wisconsin. Enbridge is conducting planned maintenance work including integrity digs as well as excavations and other activities on Line 2B during the summer of 2015. These actions are part of our ongoing commitment to integrity work throughout all of our pipeline systems. Part of the planned pipeline maintenance work also includes hydrostatic integrity testing on Line 2B that will take place in late summer. This eventual integrity test uses a method of pressurized water to test the pipeline. The federally-approved testing method confirms safe pipeline operating levels. This testing is referred to as “hydrostatic testing.” The hydrostatic test is carefully planned and controlled and will give Enbridge an opportunity to confirm a threshold measurement for safe operations of Line 2B, according to federal regulatory standards. These maintenance projects and integrity testing will help promote the continued safe and reliable delivery of energy. Crude oil is refined into petroleum products we use every day - from fuel for our cars to heating oil for our homes to the clothes we wear, medical products on which we rely, and the household products we buy.

This eventual integrity test

uses a method of pressurized water to test the pipeline.
