New Solar Energy Project Coming to the Lincoln Park Community

The Urban Collaborative Project is a community-based organization in the Fourth District, committed to enriching local neighborhoods through civic engagement and community collaboration.

Recently, the organization was one of only two nation-wide to be awarded a grant through the Institute for Sustainable Communities Partnership for Resilient Communities.

The grant will be used to install solar infrastructure and energy storage at the Gathering Place in Lincoln Park, an outdoor space used for community events and programs. By creating a small scale renewable energy project in the heart of our district, the Gathering Place will serve as an example of what the future of clean energy can look like.

The most exciting part about this project, is the focus on creating learning and training opportunities for our young people, to get them directly involved in community-driven approaches to urban development. This project will do this by providing workforce training to our residents as part of the solar power installation, opening up the door to skilled jobs in the growing field of clean energy and technological development.

The Gathering Space is also available to rent for community events at a nominal fee – for details, you can contact Brian Pollard at 619-392-0203 or [email protected].
