WELCOME to Lincoln County 4-H SPIN CLUB Would you like to learn toassemble a robot?... sew a pillow?invest your money? As a 4-H member, a family learning and growing together. Welcome to the wonderful world of 4-H! 4-H Special Interest clubs are a fun way for kids to expand and get involved in 4-H while exploring activities on a single topic each month throughout the year. 4-H SPIN hosts learning activities each month to introduce members to newtopics of interest and begin developing skills for life. Some activities build upon skills learned the previous month while other topics will be a one -time opportunity. All SPIN Club meetings/projects are explained through- out this booklet. 4-H SPIN Club members are eligible to join other 4-H clubs as well as participate in many 4-H opportunities that are promoted throughout the year. All SPIN Club members/families will receive the free, monthly newsletter once they have completed their online 4-H enrollment. You can stay in touch with 4-H events/ activities by connecting through social media! The 4-H program is so large and the opportunities are SO vast that it can sometimes seem a little overwhelming when you are new. SPIN Clover Kid 4-H CLUB Ages 5-7

The 4-H Clover Kid program is designed to provide 5 to 7 year olds with a variety of educational and recreational experiences in a non-competitive environment. The program fosters the development of life skills that are essential for the cognitive, social, emotional and physical maturation of young children. Clover Kids may participate in activities led by an adult that will help them:

Explore different interests Build self-confidence Practice communication skills Get along and share with others Be a part of a group Explore science with simple experiments Strengthen motor skills through arts and crafts Make friends 4-H Clover Kids programs and curriculum will include activities and learning opportunities that are developmentally appropriate for this age youth.

PROJECT AREA: Wood Working—Build a Birdhouse CloverKids will have an introduction to woodworking while constructing a birdhouse. Each child will have a birdhouse to take home to begin their bird-watching career!

PROJECT AREA: No Bake Cookies—Learn how to correctly measure ingredients to create successful snacks.

APRIL MEETING:

WHEN: April 8, 2017 (Saturday) TIME: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. WHERE: Lincoln Co Fairgrounds, Centennial Hall, 5015 W Hwy 30, North Platte PROJECT AREA: Animal Exploration— CloverKid members will explore different animals and understand the responsibility of caring for animals. APRIL MEETING:

WHEN: April 22, 2017 (Saturday)) TIME: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. WHERE: Lincoln Co Fairgrounds, Centennial Hall, 5015 W Hwy 30, North Platte PROJECT AREA: Growums—Take part in the Lincoln County Ag Society program called “Growums”, and learn how to grow vegetables and herbs.

MAY MEETING:

WHEN: May 9, 2017 (Tuesday) TIME: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

WHERE: Equitable Bank 920 S Jeffers, North Platte

PROJECT AREA: Bank Tour—Children will see behind-the-scenes of a local bank. Explore the vault, see where money is kept, begin understanding how to save your money.

JUNE MEETING:

WHEN: June 1, 2017 (Thursday) TIME: 10:00 a.m. to NOON WHERE: Lincoln Co Fairgrounds, Centennial Hall, 5015 W Hwy 30, North Platte PROJECT AREA: Horse Magic—Members will learn about caring for a horse and how to ride a horse. Each participant will build their own stick-horse to take home and ready for the Ranch Rodeo.

SPIN Robotics 4-H CLUB

Ages 10-18

Learn how robots are designed and developed. Learn to

program your own robot and test it in a variety of environ-

ments. Youth will be engaged in the field

of robotics each month while developing

a greater interest in the field of sci-

ence. Youth will explore the relationship

robotics have to agriculture, energy, sci-

ence, and the environment while cre-

ating a positive attitude for science and

science related careers.

robots. Develop the elements to play an active role in under-

standing forces and motion, graphing and interpreting the

world of robotics.

SPIN Sewing 4-H CLUB

Ages 8-18

The primary goal of the Sewing SPIN Club

is to develop sewing skills that will allow

youth to master skills including pattern drawing, choosing

fabrics, cutting out patterns and sewing seams. The club

will prepare all youth to being able to create wearable

clothing.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Good-functioning traditional

sewing machine, basic sewing equipment & enthusiasm to

learn. All other supplies will be furnished at each meeting.

(A limited number of sewing machines are available on a

check-out basis but must be arranged prior to sign-up by

contacting the Extension Office.)
