Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR How We came To be..."Join us for a walk down memory lane, up to the present, and into the future………" We are located in the center of the great State Of North Carolina, Hillsborough, used to be the Capitol. I am Martha, the MAR in "LinMar", allow me to introduce you to the LIN in "LinMar", my wonderful husband for 57 years. Both of us have designated duties, he drives the bus and scoops the poop. Our first six litters were wonderful, arriving two and a half years apart. First born was "the dog", our son (Michael Lin), followed by five lovely "bitches", our daughters (MaryMartha, Maria

Michelle, Marcia Melissa, Melanie Mae, and Myra Marguerite) all born with a Boxer in their beds. We bought our first pet Boxer, Duchess, three months after we were married; she lived to be 12. Since then, we have had two to twenty. We could not show Boxers and raise our children with a very good success rate, so we finished the "Kids" first. Then came the turning point for LinMar when we met Walter Ross, Philadel Boxers, at a Mighty Match in Raleigh, NC, and bought our first show dog and finished Ch Philadel's Fireside Chat, known as "The Iceman". He took his first points in Winston Salem, NC, winning over the Specials Dog that day under Ms. Ed Bivens. We had no clue what was about to happen in our lives. With that first win, we were hooked. The Iceman loved to show, and show he did for Cheryl. Since the beginning of Iceman's career, Keith and Cheryl Robbins, CherKei Boxers served as our mentors. The Iceman went to Heaven at 17 years old. Our kennel was founded on two of their great stud dogs, Ch CherKei's High Cotton, SOM (our Hey Hey Paula had seven champions making Cotton a Sire of Merit), and Ch CherKei's Ultimate High. Thus far, we have finished 21 champions, 18 homebred, and two DOM’s (LinMar’s Love Always O’Philadel "Hey Hey Paula" and Ch LinMar’s Kitty Hawk "Wilbur", her Dame, Ch LinMar’s First in Flight II, X Ch High River’s Taylor Made. Wilbur’s champions; Sing, Song, Music, and Jazz). Thirteen are from three LinMar bitches, (Hey Hey Paula, Sweet Caroline and Wilbur). Ch LinMar's Absolut High, (Vodka), his Dame is our Ch LinMar's Sweet Caroline X Ch CherKei’s Ultimate High. When our first litter of prospective "Show Puppies" arrived I thought something terrible was wrong with them, I said, this sure flopped, all of them are pets, they have pink noses...little did I know that in 8 to 10 days they would turn black. The fun was just

beginning, Cheryl Robbins finished our first homebred champion, Ch LinMar's Sweet Caroline on the Tar Heel Circuit (her Dame, Little Melna’s Independence, X Ch Philadel’s Winter Destiny. She loved to show and she sure could move. In October when she was 8 years old, she won the Veteran's Class shown by Jacque Whidden at the Georgia Boxer Specialty. Her son, Ch LinMar's Absolute High V CherKei was Winners Dog, and his Sire, Ch CherKei's Ultimate High was Best of Breed, it was "all in the family" that day!! Vodka finished with a 5 point major in January, 1998. Next came the litter from a bitch we leased from Walter, Philadel's Winter Solstice, “Soli". We bred her to the famous Ch Hildebrand’s Jet Breaker. Some of you may remember our ad in the Boxer Review with babies bursting out of starbursts with a firecracker in the middle, and the ad read "Look for My Babies to Make Boxer History" and all of their names were closings of a letter, and of course our most wonderful of all was our Dam of Merit, ”Hey, Hey, Paula". She was never in a show ring but has proven to be a great producer of show dogs (7 back to back champions,

lacked one point to finish the 8th). During the 1993 National Basketball Championship game, LinMar's "Tar Heel Gang" was born, and so goes their names from the slogans of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels; Tar Heel, who finished in 5 consecutive shows on the Tar Heel Circuit, Fever, Blue Heaven and the Dream, Smitty, named for our world famous

Basket Ball Coach, Dean Smith. We repeated this breeding with success.... The HIGH Litter, five lovely bitches and three finished; High Five, Record High, and High Tide. After Paula, came our lovely Ch LinMar's Kitty Hawk, DOM, out of Ch LinMar's First in Flight II. We must mention LinMar's Red Sonja and her two beautiful daughters, Ch LinMar's Maggie Mae, and Ch LinMar’s Zeralda Gail, (named after Jessie James’ wife, Zee), competing against the other at the 2013 Eukanuba National Championships in Sarasota, FL. Sitting there holding our breath, both won their class, Maggie Mae in Open, and Zee in Am. Bred.....Ultimate Winner's Bitch, the old West Bandit's wife, ZEE...Yes, a highlight in our life in Boxers, for the very best Boxers were there, and it was our most prestigious win in LinMar's history. Last March, 2015, Tar Heel Circuit, Tar Heel Boxer Specialty, Ch LinMar's Voice of the Tar Heels, "Woody" 8 years old won Best in Breed. Woody's sire; Ch Damas Catch Me if you Can "Catcher" and Dame; LinMar's Hailey's Comet. We have continued to breed for health and longevity, always seeking guidance from the leaders in the breed (CHERKEI, HILDENBRAND, HIGHRIVERS, ARRIBA, CRYSTO, SIRROCCOS, DAMAS, and PRO to name a few of the greats). We thank all of them. Our first National and many thereafter were in Newark, N.J.; we attended all that were held in Frederick, MD, and one at the Draw Bridge in 2006 where we had several wonderful futurity wins. We attended 15 total national events. We have remodeled the entire right end of our home to accommodate our Boxers and re-landscaped the property, and believe you me, more than one person called us crazy.

Candace Boyd -- JUPITER

After purchasing my first boxer, Sonny, from a Kansas City pet shop in 1974, I

started to learn more about the breed. I then met with Dalene Lewis (Brown) of

Dasel's Boxers. "Topaz" moved to Wichita, KS with us where I met Frances

Albert and Joan Johnson. They talked me into showing my pet girl, trying to

build points for the supported entry. She won her class with competition and I

was bitten by the show bug.

My first litter was sired by ICH. TuRo's Native Dancer

“Yogi”. His daughter, Jupiter's Moon Dancer “Aero”,

placed in the BBE class at the 1979 ABC Regional in

Oklahoma City.

Moving back East and settling in Lancaster County, PA I bred Aero to Goldie Nalven's CH.

Wickershaw's Cassanova and a puppy dog, Jupiter's Moon Castle, placed in the BBE class of the

1981 ABC in Newark, NJ. Still learning all the time from Beverley Sachs and Mary

Leibensperger.

I have owned, co-owned or co-bred CH. Dasel's Lasers Touch, CH. Dasel's Legend of Jupiter, CH.

MaSue's Bride of Jupiter and CH. Nantess Show Stopper. Jacquet's Dixie Dutchess, Jupiter's

Rock & Rye and Jupiter's Bad Moon Rising all needed one 3pt major to finish.

When obedience came back to the National In Fredrick, MD, I stewarded for many years,

then decided to enter my 9 year old girl, Callie. We won the Novice A class with a run off.

She went on to get her CD title that summer. When Agility was added, I ran my white

boxer, Luna, amidst many comments but paving the way for others!

Thru the years I have belonged to the following dog clubs:

Boxer Club of Wichita (now defunct) President. 1978 & 1979.

Saucon Valley Boxer Club past Board of Director & Review Reporter.

Eastern Boxer Club past Vice President and currently for 27 years.

Lancaster Kennel Club serving as a past Board of Director, Vice President and chair of several committees.

I have helped the ABC in any which that I could over the years.

I have judged several Sweepstakes: Saucon Valley, Maryland, Potomac and working puppy

group at the Celtic Cluster in York, PA.

My life with boxers has been a blessing. Meeting so many wonderful folk from around the

country and being loved by my boxers over the past forty years.

I am honored to become a Life Member of the American Boxer Club.

Anthony J. Cashia -- BLACKTHORN Has it really been 25 years since I joined the ABC…seems like

yesterday when I traveled to California to meet my future mentor

and friend Eleanor Linderholm-Wood the Grand Dam of the Boxer

breed. My original quest was to buy my first puppy show bitch CH.

Merrilane Sweet Dreams…”Chaney” (CH. Merrilane’s Knockout x

Anton’s April Memory) a beautiful brindle with incredible dark eyes.

The moment I saw her I knew she was the one. Ellie was giving me

first of many Boxer lessons when I noticed a young male, I asked her

who is that, CH. Merrilane’s Equalizer (CH. Keil’s Dynasty x CH.

Merrilane’s Lookout “CJ” to much of my surprise Ellie sold both CJ

and Chaney to me.

CJ was all I could ever ask for in a male boxer. CJ was also Shown, Finished and Limited Specialed by

Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter

Chaney would be showed and finished by Anne Keil. Chaney head shot

was use in Richard Tomita book “The World of the Boxer” page 56.

Even today when I browse through Richard’s book I remember the day I

first set eyes on Chaney, my heart stills skips a beat and I am so proud

how her ears turned out. I remember to this day the tapping lessons

from Ellie. I can hear her say “you better tape those ears right!” I still

have the corset stays she gave me as supports.

I remember walking CJ and Chaney in my neighborhood and people

stopping their car to look at them. Both CJ and Chaney love the

attention and would strike a pose for their “fans”.

Thank you Ellie for giving me the opportunity to have those loving

animals come into my life and thank you to the many friends I meet

alone the way with my love affair with Boxers

Peter & Magaly Cooling -- CEDRICK'S MANOR

1) How long have you been involved with Boxers and how did you become involved? We have been involved for 31 years. In December 1985 with a 12-year-old son and after recovery from a serious auto accident we decided we needed something fresh and exciting in our lives. After deciding on a dog and after diligent research because due to household allergies we needed a short haired and reasonably shed free breed we bought a 12-week old brindle male ‘Nero’ from a well-regarded local kennel. And off we went … Much research lead to many friends and mentors all over the country.

2) Highlight your accomplishments in breeding and exhibiting, conformation, performance, agility and /or other related competitions?

We only entered conformation and have had four AKC Champions: Evergreen’s Magnolia Maggie Finished: 11/20/1988 Southpaw’s Miss B Haven Missy Finished: 04/20/1990 Vihabra’s Stella by Starlight Stella Finished: 10/06/1990 Telstar’s Yosemite Sam Tex Finished: 09/04/1993

We did some breeding producing some nice litters but few entered conformation. Cedrick’s Diamond in the Ruff went to Canada for showing for a season but was one point short of Championship when he had to come home. Cedrick’s OJ went to Pennsylvania and did fairly well and was bred to produce some nice dogs. South Florida was somewhat isolated from the ‘scene’ which made it more difficult to actively participate with people other than the relatively few local enthusiasts.

3) Have you been the recipient of any ABC or other important dog related Awards? Ch. Southpaws Miss B Haven, who achieved her Championship at The Potomac Boxer Club of 04/20/1990, received an Award of Excellence at the 05/10/1991 ABC National in Newark NJ under Ben DeBoer. Coincidentally while walking Missy one evening we bumped into John Connelly who took a look at her and exclaimed that he could not find anything wrong with her at all. Wow. The next day she got her award!

1991 was also the year that we were admitted to the ABC sponsored by Dick and Chris Baum who also handled Missy and Tex’s campaign.

Telstar’s Yosemite Sam placed 3rd in the 12 to 18 Month Brindle Dog Class at the ABC National in Newark NJ on 5/12/1993 under Billie McFadden.

4) Please tell us which of your Boxers have brought you the greatest pleasure/success into your life and why? They all are held dear for a variety of reasons. Missy did well with her Award of Excellence and had her own fan club. People were upset when she did not do as well as expected. Magnolia was our first Champion. Tex was a character and our only male Champion. Stella was fairly quiet but brought out character in the others. Then there were the others who were simply pets – Nero, Magnum, Paola, Onyx, Chica, Beau, Butterfly, Diamond, Little Bit, Charlie, Amos – and those who became the pets of other people. A lot of fun and different things, but the crown goes to Missy.

5) What is your kennel name and the story of how you came up with it? Our Kennel name is ‘Cedrick’s Manor Boxers’. In the late 90’s PBS TV showed a series called ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ featuring a vet named James Herriot whose practice was in the Yorkshire Dales. Some of the landed gentry lived there among the local farmers. One of them had a Boxer named ‘Cedric’ who suffered from flatulence. To anglicize it we added ‘Manor’. When Armando Miro designed our logo a ‘k’ appeared resulting in ‘Cedrick’s Manor Boxers’.

6) Have you or are you currently a Dog Author, Professional Handler, or AKC Judge? If so for how long? No to all of the above

7) List the dog clubs to which you belong and how long you have served those clubs, especially particulars for service to ABC? In 1986 we joined the Greater Miami Boxer Club later to become the Southeast Florida Boxer Club. We held all the positions except Corresponding Secretary. Peter received the ‘Quiet Man’ Award for his service to the club, performed with little fuss. As Recording Secretary our meeting minutes will have been forwarded to the ABC.

8) What are your current interests and activities relative to pure-bred dogs, and particularly the Boxer Breed? We still follow the Boxer world but due to advancing age and Peter having a serious health condition we are unable to be physically active.

We are particularly grateful to the many people who have become our friends and who so very generously gave of their time and expertise to help us along. Several names stand out but it would be unwise to list them lest we inadvertently

leave someone out. They know who they are, so …sssshh!

Lori McClain Ferguson -- MAXL I have had Boxers for 30 years. I got my first Boxer in 1986 my, then

boyfriend presented me with him as a surprise, that was definitely the

best present he ever gave me! This puppy boy we named Max, he was

sired by dog that was not finished, but had a champion brother. The

owner of that champion brother took me to my first dog show to watch

his dog being shown. At that juncture, I was definitely interested and

pursued a few shows with Max. A show dog he was not destined to be,

but a dog that stole my heart and started me on this wild ride with

Boxers he was!! I was introduced thru Max's pedigree to some key

people who would go on to be such great mentors for me, Harold and

Velda Rounsaville along with Carl Rounsaville of Har-Vel Boxers. Max went on to get his CD title and was one of the first

agility title Boxers before AKC recognized it. Max is the "Max" in my kennel name Maxl, with the "l" coming from Lori,

pronounced (Max-cell)

With much guidance and direction, I determined that I needed the very

best bitch I could get to start doing this at the level I wanted. I bought my

first bitch from Pam Rohr of Dreamweaver Boxers. BISS and Group

Winning CH. Dreamweaver's Gold Lace O' Maxl, CD, DOM. Molly, as she

was known to us. She was sired by the illustrious, CH. Rochil’s Grande

Marshall, SOM, LOM out of Pam’s girl, CH. Lucy’s Gold Thread, DOM. I

will be forever grateful to her for entrusting me with this exceptional girl.

She went on to produce 4 champions, 2 of which became Sires of Merit;

their sire was CH. Schoolmaster’s Easter Noah, SOM. They were Ch.

Maxl's Premiere of Dreamweaver and the other special boy went on to

be one of the top producers of our current time, Multiple Best in

Specialty Show and Group winning CH. Maxl's Golden Boy, SOM, LOM,

sire of 50 champions to include 8 Producers of Merit thus far. He was the 1998 Reserve Winners Dog, a two time Top 20

contender, 2000 Award of Merit winner and in 2002 was the ABC Best Veteran. Conner sired many Award winning

Boxers at ABC and beyond and is in MANY pedigrees of today's top Boxers.

My heart lies with the breeding programs and the future of our breed in all

areas. However, as a handler, I have enjoyed so many wonderful dogs and really

exciting wins; I will never forget those dogs that brought so much joy and

excitement to me and to their owners and breeders! Both sides of the ring are

an enormous pleasure for me. Since handling became my full time career,

breeding kind of took a back seat, yet I have bred over 20 champions and

owned many more. I have been truly blessed with wonderful and dear friends

and clients throughout the years, for without them I would not have been able

to attain these goals, I think you ALL know who you are!! I look so forward to

the future with young ones coming up and those who are just being thought

about right now! I would be remiss if I did not mention my mom, Ruth, who is

“behind the scenes” every step of the way! Without her, this lifestyle would not

have been possible for me!

Page 9: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

Boxers have been such a huge part of my life. I met my husband, Todd, thru

Boxers on his quest for a flashy brindle boy, that boy later became “our”

Ozzie! We just lost Ozzie in 2015. He was never shown, but he was a part of

our lives together every day of his. We have been afforded so many

opportunities throughout my life with Boxers! My clients and dear friends,

Rufus and Mary Frances Burleson have been such a blessing to me to

continue my handling. And now with Mary Frances, to be involved with the

wonderful Marburl Boxers as she continues to fuel the legacy. For without

them, none of my dogs would have been possible as they are the foundation

for my line. My unending gratitude to her for the opportunity!!

I am currently a member of the ABC and ABCF. As far as new interests going

on in Boxers, I love the barn hunt competition and do look forward to doing more of it!

I owe so much to this breed and want to give back in any way I can. I am a big supporter of the ABCF and believe in

helping our breed thru research and study to reduce the diseases that plague Boxers. We currently have 3 permanent

residents at our home in Texas and lots of visitors going in and out on the show circuits!

Marilyn Grayson -- BEAU BIEN My name is Marilyn Grayson and I live in New Mexico, a gorgeous state, without a Boxer Club or the people to form one. I have had dogs since I was 12. I was an only child and my Sheltie and I were inseparable. She went everywhere with me. When she died suddenly at age 5 I was devastated. What happened? Why would a well-bred dog die so young? I now know some of the answers to that question and I’m passionately interested in changing that number. In 1979, when my career as a family therapist was well on its way, I began taking courses at the University for Fun. I fell in love with the study of genetics in the biology department and decided I wanted to learn genetics first hand, by breeding dogs. My professor said I should breed chickens, but I wanted to study dogs.

At the same time I decided I wanted a mean looking, nice dog. I lived by myself and I worked with mentally ill and addicted people. I wanted a watch dog. I researched dogs for over a year when retired friends of mine who had been career CIA and had raised their children with Boxers had a well-bred litter and I fell in love with the puppies. I went home with two 8 week old boxer pups. One was a deaf white male. Little did I know how controversial he was going to be. I haven’t been without a boxer since then (1978). My friends got me started reading the Boxer Review and I soon found that if I wanted to breed boxers I needed to get involved in showing. And I did not have the quality animals for that. For 5 years I visited breeders when I traveled. I needed to get my foot in the door. Wendy Ness, from Maryland, sold me a puppy who I finished (Ch. Carlwen’s Chamisa) and I bred her to Ch. Talisman’s Vagabond. That litter became the blood line I followed. Chamisa died at five from cancer. I was devastated again. Wendy Ness died shortly thereafter. (Moral, buy your first show prospect from a young person). Freddie Herndon stepped into the gap and gave me a beautiful 18 month old, ready for the show ring. I finished her quickly and joined her line to my Carlwen/Talisman line. From Lazarus on, every boxer I had, got to be a therapy dog in my practice. I never had worries about dangerous people again.

In 2006 I bred my last litter with frozen semen from Ch. Arriba Talisman’s Ego. I had a littler of one but what a one. That was Huckleberry, Ch. Beau Bien’s Echo of Ego. He finished with 5 point majors and returned home to cuddle with me while I went through cancer treatment. He was my comforter. When I got better we learned agility and competed locally and at ABC. We even tried herding! We had a very special connection. Everyone saw it. We were bonded. I lost him to kidney disease in December. New Mexico was a difficult place to live for Boxer people. I early found I had no real local community. My closest Boxer Club at the time was Boxer Club of Arizona, only 450 miles away. I went to their specialty show to meet the Boxer people and sat ringside with Lazarus, my deaf white Boxer. I had no idea what a sensation I was causing.

Next I involved myself in ABC, the national boxer club. I began going to the national show when it was in New Jersey. I even showed there in bred-by. I came vending tee shirts and boxer shorts to raise money for Boxer Rescue when rescue

Page 11: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

was a new idea. Sometime in the early ’90s the local animal shelter’s vet starting calling me every few months telling me about some gorgeous Boxer who was about to be euthanized. She’d send me into a panic because I had no idea what to do. I called a meeting of everyone I knew who loved Boxers and we agreed to organize to rescue boxers. Boxer Rescue of Albuquerque has now been going for over 20 years and has become a state wide rescue. It rescues 80-100 boxers a year! Many come from Roswell where Boxers are used for bait in dogfighting rings. It has been such a gift to me to get to know many of these poor rescues for they are a testament to the good nature of the breed. My interest still is health research. When we began testing boxers for ARVC I was one of the first to do so. I bought my own equipment and lent it to anyone with Boxers who needed it. I followed the research avidly and still do. It’s been generations since I lost a dog to ARVC. I am very excited about the progressing made in the treatment of DM. I have never had a dog with it but I’ve seen plenty of them and would not wish that on any dog. I tell everyone who will listen about the latest research on DM and ALS. I look forward to seeing progress made on the elimination of cancers in Boxers. I look forward to the

average age of Boxers growing. I wonder about the heritability of shyness in the breed. So much to conquer! When I first began attending ABC, national and regional, I was lonely. I didn’t know anybody. I wasn’t the only one. I suggested to the board that I could change that in the future. They agreed to let me try. I began by offering a meet and greet party for the proposed new members of the club. It was a hit. The party idea has changed a little now but the idea is the same. Proposed new members have an opportunity to meet each other and the ABC board. They have a chance in that small setting to ask any questions or bring up any concerns they have about the club. I’m sure this saves us all time at the annual meeting. Not having to catch the newbies up on old issues for us and new concerns for them. I’m delighted to achieve life membership and I thank you for this honor.

Tony & Mary Louwerse -- TOMAR

Tony’s first boxer was given to his family by a handler

friend of the family in the early 50’s. As a young boy

Tony was around shows. His dad was a set-up

foreman for the Foley Dog Shows Inc. it is now MBF.

Tony had three uncles who were professional

handlers; when Tony went to Dog shows in the

summer, weekends, etc. he would work for handlers.

One important handler was Jane (Kamp) Forsyth. In

1952, Tony was at the Civic Center in Philly (bench

show) where he saw Bang Away win Best in Show.

When Tony and Mary got married his parents took Mary to dog shows (1960); she

was hooked. We have shown boxers for thirty years. We had two pet boxers for our

daughters Lisa and Tina. They named the dogs Droopy and Bandit.

We purchased our first show bitch from Trefoil Boxers – pretty fawn named Sissy.

She had to be spayed at 2 years old (was pointed). Thanks to some wonderful

people we purchased some beautiful bitches. Are kennel name is To-Mar (Tony &

Mary). Tony has been the president of the Eastern Boxer Club for thirty years. Mary

has been Hospitality and Trophy Chairman for 25 years. She is currently on the

board of Directors. Tony enjoys judging sweepstakes and all breed match shows.

Tony has served on The ABC Board of Directors. He has been Vendor Chairman since

ABC was at Frederick, Maryland. He has been awarded the ABC Good Sportsmanship

Award. Tony also sets-up equipment and stores it and is willing to do any chore to

help to get the job done; no matter how big or small. Mary is the Trophy Chairman

for ABC (since the second year the show was held in Kentucky).

To-Mar has only bred nine litters; three litters were one puppy.

We wish to thank the owners who have purchased pets and show puppies for your

love and care you have given the kids. Thank you.

Tony and Mary wish to thank all the wonderful people who have been with us, good

or bad, standing by us; trusting us with some beautiful boxer’s to come to To-Mar to

become champions and thank you Kim who was on the lead for twenty-five years.

With our deepest and heart felt gratitude to you all.

Page 13: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

Jerry Miller -- SEASIDE I owe my past thirty years of life owning, breeding and exhibiting pure bred dogs to the

Boxer breed and the love and support of my wife, Caroline, for my hobby. As important as

our dogs have been to my family and me, the people along the way have been even more

important. No one has been as blessed by mentors as I from the superb professionals, Mel

Holloman and Margery Good, and friends Barbara Bush, Charlotte Patterson, Barbara Bogan

and Olive Lee. I cherish my friendship with many ABC members who I see from time to time

and are kind to remember my dogs or me.

In 1987 our life with Boxers began with the purchase of a pet bitch from Flo Doty, a

wonderful ambassador of the Boxer. I had grown up with dogs during my childhood as my

father was a deer and quail hunter and he and his fellows kept packs for their hunting

passion. From time to time we also had a house pet. Caroline and I, in our early marriage, had tried a dog in the home

on two separate occasions without it really working out for us. Then our daughter Alison, as a ten year old, wanted a

dog. With the help of Barbara Bush, a spaniels fancier, we picked Boxers as fitting our family. Barbara put us in contact

with Flo Doty, a great ambassador of the Boxer. It worked.

Von Schaums Moneypenny, the Wonder Dog, was that first puppy. Penny was the

perfect pet for our family. I was smitten with the show bug when we picked Penny

up at a show and stayed for the day. I should have taken the antidote, but we all

know, there is not one to be had. Alison, when reaching college age, commented

“I wanted a puppy and we have this mess.” By then we always had 3 or 4 Boxers

around. SeaSide was a natural kennel name as we reside on the north Florida

coast of the Gulf of Mexico and for the last 40 years in Fort Walton Beach, my

home town, and Destin.

After doing ring training with Penny and a puppy bitch from her first litter, I then

purchased over a short time two puppy show dog prospects. Both became

champions with professional handlers. The first was Ch. Gold Medal’s SeaSide

Starr. The second was from Earl Overstreet, ACC Ewo’s SeaSide Surf Breaker, Sire

of Merit and Legion of Merit. The timing was perfect, as Earl could not keep all of

the incredible litter, but would not part with a bitch. Surfer, a multiple group and specialty winner, was exhibited at the

ABC Top Twenty in 1993 and 1994. Surfer was a very special example of the breed and a great family dog in our home

as well. Penny’s second litter, sired by Surfer, was spectacular and all went to good homes. SeaSide’s Surf Beauty won

Senior Grand Sweeps at the New Jersey Box Club and earned an ABC sweeps placement as well. With Olive Lee I bred

Ch. SeaSide’s Suncrest Sinner, Dam of Merit. It is thrilling to know that SeaSide is in the heritage of Boxers being

exhibited today.

Our life in Boxers was interrupted with family care priorities as they were

simply too much dog for ailing family members. I kept my dog interest alive

with assisting in campaigning a group winning Cardigan Welch Corgi, who

when retired came to live with us.

When able to again actively participate in exhibiting, I acquired the first of

three Champion Sealyham Terrier dogs and one bitch puppy. I owned and

handled the bitch to her championship, and had great owner-handler success

in the Terrier group ring from 2005 through 2010 with 3 separate Terrier

Peggy A. Otto -- PRO As a child, my family always had a dog, ranging from Poodles to Cockers to Shepherds, but the first in my memory was a Boxer. She was a plain fawn, named Molly Bee, given to my parents by one of my Dad’s Air Force buddies who was being transferred overseas. She wasn’t with us long, but she left a lasting impression on me. When I was 5, I met Sam. Sam was owned by my Uncle Albert and white. Sam was a big boy and lived to be 15 years old. I saw Sam frequently during his lifetime and grew very fond of Sam. It was Sam who dispelled the white myth for me many years later. How could white Boxers be sickly when Sam lived for so long? My first year in college, I found myself living alone and missing four-legged companionship. As luck would have it,

I happened upon a Boxer breeder. I had gone to see my insurance agent to renew my auto insurance and he had a show picture of a Boxer on his desk. I commented on the picture and was told that his wife currently had a litter of pups available. The end of May ’73, I brought home Sweet Cinnamon Sugar, aka: C’mon. She was an ICH Brumble Carolina Star grand-daughter on her dam’s side and a great grand-daughter of CH Salgray’s Fashion Plate on her sire’s side. She was a flashy fawn and the love of my life for 13+ years. C’mon was evaluated at 10 months old by Peter Baynes, who was a handler at the time, at the local Charleston KC show. I sat very patiently watching what was going on and after the judging concluded and Peter’s groupies scattered, I approached Peter with C’mon who was wearing a belt collar and on a belt lead, asking if we could “Do this?”. He went over her and commented that although he could see that she was well bred, she was doggy. The only rings C’mon ever entered were for fun matches, but I learned a lot about Boxers in her lifetime.

After her passing and taking time to recover from the same, I began my search for another quality Boxer. The search took over a year! All the breeders I talked to weren’t willing to sell a flashy fawn female puppy to a novice with the intention of breeding. Finally I met my first mentor and was given a copy of a Boxer Review through which I found Dale and Deborah Spivey of Shamrock Boxers. On my next visit to Raleigh NC where my sister and her husband were living, I called and met with them. They had 2 female pups, 1 flashy fawn and 1 flashy brindle, but only one would be available and they didn’t know which pending the selection of the co-breeder. Back then, I was colorblind and told them I only wanted fawn. They were to let me know the following week if I had a puppy. It only took the drive home to lose my colorblindness! As soon as I could, I called them back to tell them I wanted either puppy, regardless of color. In February of ’87, I picked up my puppy in Myrtle Beach SC where Dale and Deborah were attending

dog shows. Her ears had already been cropped, she was flashy fawn and she was mine! Our first stop was at my friend’s house who had given me the copy of the Boxer Review, who insisted I start attending handling classes because she was too pretty not to show. And so it began! I was hooked from the first blue ribbon from the first time she was shown in the 6-9 puppy class, judged by Annie Clark. I soon realized I had neither the experience nor the clout to properly show her myself, so Roxie was singled out by Julie Secovnie and finished by Mel Holloman. Shamrock’s Mahogany Roxie, aka: Roxie, became my first champion and the foundation of PRO Boxers. Planning Roxie’s first breeding and with the anticipation of puppies, I decided I needed a prefix before registering a litter and PRO Boxers was born; ‘P’ for Peggy, ‘R’

Page 16: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

for Robert (my husband), and ‘O’ for Otto. It was short and didn’t take up too many spaces allowed for naming puppies! Roxie’s litter sired by ICH Seaside’s EWO Surf Breaker, SOM, LOM produced 8 puppies, 5 bitches and 3 males. Only one of these pups (a male) finished, but 2 of the bitches can be found behind many of my Boxers through the years, PRO’s Patagonia Surf-ette (Dinky) and PRO’s Bubblegum Surf-ette (Pudgy). Pudgy, when bred to CH EWO’s Nice and Easy in June of 1995, produced CH PRO’s Ace In The Hole. Ace was the sire of 6 AKC champions, 1 Mexican champion, 2 performance titled pups, 1 SOM, and 1 DOM.

With Roxie’s retirement from the whelping box, I found myself in need of another bitch. I had heard through the grapevine that Earl Overstreet was expecting a litter sired by Surfer that was due to whelp in November of 1994. At a show we were both attending, I knocked on the door to Earl’s rig and handed him a check, saying it was my deposit on a puppy from his Surfer sired litter. Earl accepted my check and I asked Earl to make my pick for me. Before Christmas, I received a picture of the litter in the mail with a circle drawn around a black masked brindle puppy with the message “This is your pup!”. Earl delivered my pup the end of January 1995 when he came for the Charleston KC shows. Deeva was my 'new' beginning. She was 3rd pick in a litter of 5, and turned out to be the only one from that litter to finish. She gave me many thrills in the ring, finishing at 16 months of age with 4 majors. She was a move-up the day after she finished and took her first of many BOBs. She was the dam of 2 champions sired by Ace, 1 AKC and 1 Mexican, and 1 DOM.

After a short Specials career, Deeva was bred to Ace, and produced Zena, CH PRO’s In Thy Image, DOM. In addition to the 4 AKC champions she produced, Zena also produced Cleo, PRO’s Lest He Be Forgotten, sired by CH ScenicVu’s Mountain Breaker. Cleo produced 4 champions, 1 Indian sired by CH Guapo Soto and 3 AKC sired by AMGCH MEXCH PRO’s Original 501 Blues, TT, SOM, aka: Levi. Levi was bred by my dear friends, Bill and Laura Nieschalk. He was out of their Coco, who was sired by Ace and out of Dinky, one of the pups from the Roxie X Surfer litter. Coco was bred to CH Shamrock’s Sixty Minute Man who was also sired by Ace. Levi is the sire of 17 AKC champions, 4 Canadian champions, 9 Mexican champions, and 3 Indian champions. Levi was awarded the 1st AOM at the 2006 ABC National, was a Top 20 contender in 2007 and 2008, and won the 50th ABC Regional in 2008. He sired the 2006 Futurity winner, who was also the 2007 ABC National BOB winner and the 2008 Top 20 winner. In 2009, one of his pups out of Cleo qualified for the Top 20. Levi was a BIS winner in both the US and Mexico, and a 2 time Best Veteran in Show winner. For many years, my husband enforced the ‘3 dog rule’ and only in the last 8 years have I kept more than 3 dogs in my home at any given time, with the exception of puppies on occasion. With limited resources, I have bred, owned and/or co-owned 19 champions, 1 SOM and 1 DOM. My husband and I currently keep and live with 5 Boxers. This year marks my Lifetime membership in both the American Boxer Club and the Georgia Boxer Club. I was the editor of the printed ABC membership directory from 2003-2006 and also assisted with the directory on the ABC website during the same time period. I have been the perpetual trophy chairman for the GBC for the last 20 years and have webmastered the GBC website since 2003.

Pamela Rohr -- DREAMWEAVER

I got my first boxer for my birthday in 1975. Gosh, that was a long time

ago! I got my second boxer, Lucy, for my birthday in 1983. My sister was

responsible for both gifts. Then I met Perry and Sandi Combest; again,

my sister. She told me of a yard she had seen full of Boxers. To this day I

can’t believe I went to their front door and introduced myself. I was

terribly shy. I guess that’s what those crazy dogs do to us; they make us

seek out other people like ourselves. By chance, I had stumbled into a

pedigree that matched my little plain girl’s (Von Rohr’s Lady Lucy), and

the next thing I knew, I had a litter and was going to fun matches for

“fun.” Yes, I was hooked. I joined the Dallas Boxer Club, met a great

bunch of people, and we began traveling as a group almost every weekend to dog shows. It was great! Everyone pulled

for one another and were truly happy and excited when one of us won. Next, I joined ABC and things got a little more

competitive.

Now I must mention the people that have influenced my life and have been

my friends for 30 years: Perry and Sandi Combest (Rochil Boxers) and Lori

McClain Ferguson (Maxl Boxers). Perry and Sandi owned the greats CH. Har-

Vel’s Gold Express, SOM “Matt” and CH. Rochil’s Grande Marshall, SOM, LOM

“Maxx”, and I was able to breed to both and have success with each breeding.

I met Lori through Velda Rounsaville of Har-Vel Boxers, and she got her

foundation bitch, CH. Dreamweaver’s Gold Lace O’MaxL, CD, DOM “Molly”

from me. Lori was really bitten by the bug and started handling my dogs and

had great wins with some of them, including a Winner’s Bitch at ABC (CH.

Dreamweaver’s Black Cherry) and a Futurity Winner/Reserve Winner’s Bitch

and Best Veteran Bitch (CH. Dreamweaver’s Future Perfect) all at ABC.

Others I am grateful to know are Michael Shepherd who took my girl

CH. Dreamweaver’s Grandestand to the Top Twenty in 1992 and 1993

and as co-owner, helped achieve the Charlotte Brashaw award for CH.

Dreamweaver’s Perfect Alibi. Also, Gail Kloecker, who has been a dear

friend, supporter and is carrying on the line.

As for my kennel name, it comes from the fact that I was immersed in

fiber arts and doing a lot of weaving at the same time. My husband,

Bob, suggested that I combine the two and call myself Dreamweaver

Boxers. I loved it!

I’ve had fun, learned a lot, traveled, met many people from all over the

world, shed too many tears when I lost a beloved dog, and now the

Piece de Resistance: a lifetime membership in the American Boxer Club.

Twenty-five years! WOW!

Valerie Rosenblum -- GOLD MEDAL

In 1981 my husband, Ken, and I decided it would be of benefit to our family to bring a dog into our home. I had never had a pet, but Ken, on the other hand, was raised with Boxers. His favorite was out of CH. Mazeline Zazarac Brandy. He can remember going to dog shows and seeing CH. Bang Away of Sirrah Crest in the ring. So obviously there was no other breed to consider. As the story goes, you can’t have just one Boxer. Things quickly changed from pet owner to breeder/exhibitor. Along the way (1985-2011) we had the privilege of meeting and learning from such boxerdom stalwarts as Leon DePriest (Hollycrest), Dot and Jerry Bryant (Interlude) and our very dear friends, Bob and BJ Phillips (Brettendale).

Over the years we have proudly bred numerous conformation champions in our limited breeding program as well as numerous agility titles. I am quite proud that our CH. Brettendale’s Gold Medal “Gabe” was awarded his Sire of Merit by the ABC. I have tried to pick a favorite Boxer, but that is like trying to choose a favorite child. Over the years, however, two have distinguished themselves. a) CH. Brettendale’s Saga of Karalot (Sage). He finished his championship on his first birthday and went on to win multiple breed and group wins.

b) CH. Brettendale’s Gold Medal, SOM “Gabe”, carrying the Brettendale kennel name and our Gold Medal kennel name, out of CH. Brettendale’s Stampede and our CH. Hollycrest’s Eden’s Express. Gabe finished his championship in 5 shows and winner of Best Jr Futurity at the Nationals and then became a Sire of Merit. Our kennel name, Gold Medal Boxers, came about while our daughter was a competitive figure skater and working towards her “Gold Medal”. It just seemed appropriate. I am a Life Member of Midwest Boxer Club, and of course, now the ABC. I have been President of our local Valparaiso Kennel Club for the last 8 years. Time and age have limited our current activities although we continue to follow show results and industry trends with great interest – through our local show and ABC publications and friends.

Gary Ryan -- BLARNEY

As most biographies start out, “I had my first Boxer in Syracuse NY in the early

1950’s.” Actually, my grandfather had the Boxer, but I always considered “Buster” my

Boxer! “Buster” came as a puppy from the South Shore of Massachusetts, exactly

where he never said. But, I always thought Salgray. Why, Salgray? Grandpa picked up

the puppy when returning from visiting family in Wareham, MA, near the Cape. Years

later, actually many years later, I returned to Boxers. And this time, there was never

an argument about whose Boxers they were.

From the 1960’s to the mid-1980’s, I raised and showed German Shepherds. However,

being in the Navy and always anticipating new duty stations, in 1986, I was ordered to

Hawaii where I bought a home. During the transition from NAS South Weymouth in

Massachusetts to Hawaii, we lost our Champion Shepherd dog in the then

required/mandatory State run quarantine. Knowing my son would never accept another Shepherd to replace “his”

“Dolf,” and after much discussion, the family decided to go back to my first dog’s breed, again that’s “Buster” the Boxer.

Being in Hawaii I was fortunate to locate Lois Matthews, the Grand Dame of Boxers in Hawaii. Lois, after an in-depth

investigation of my “worthiness,” remember I was a sailor, she allowed me to purchase my second Boxer, “Moko Moko

Moi Loa,” Hawaiian for Regal Boxer. Moko, however, was a monorchid and of course not eligible for showing. Moko

stayed with us for over 13 years. He always considered himself the “Alpha” dog only second to me. He even made trips

from Hawaii to Dallas and from Dallas to Chesapeake, Virginia, where I was stationed after Hawaii.

With our problem with Moko, and knowing the limited gene pool in Hawaii at that

time, I looked elsewhere for my next Boxer. And, this Boxer had to come from

somewhere that didn’t require time in Hawaii’s quarantine. Lois Matthews once again

came to my rescue by introducing me to two folks who have since become dear, dear

friends, Liz and Miles Gunter of Guntop Boxers in Australia. After talking with Liz and

Miles I asked for a nice fawn bitch from their line which at the time included, CH

Salgray's Argo of Memorylane, “Bobby.”

Thus, began my next 30 years in the Boxer ring. Our little puppy grew into a beautiful

lady and after two litters and four years, she became CH Guntop Bobby’s Girl, “Kili.”

While Kili didn’t particularly like the show ring, I had two phenomenal handlers,

Marylou Hatfield and Cheryl Robbins. It was Cheryl that finished Kili with back to back

5 point majors in Charlotte, NC. And after the fact, we found out that Kili was the first

Australian-bred Boxer to become an U.S. Boxer Champion. There were celebrations

here and “Down Under.”

Through the years, I’ve been a member of the Hawaii Boxer Club, a member

and past-president of the Indian River Boxer Club, and Sally and I are now

members of the Alleghany Boxer Club. “Blarney Boxers,” our kennel, has

had a total of 15 Champions. And all, except our current young man, were

from our initial brood bitch “Kili.”

From the 1980’s, I’ve moved four more times, retired after thirty-nine years

in the U.S. Navy, got divorced, remarried and for about ten years I stepped

back from the ring. However, I was never without one of my beloved

Boxers. That is, until 2013 when my last Champions and one of his

daughters passed at 14 years and 12 years respectfully.

Living without a Boxer was something my bride, Sally, and I couldn’t

Page 20: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

imagine. So once again, I went back to old friends in the Boxer Community and was ultimately steered to California,

PawPrint Boxers and Christina Ghimenti and Lauri Travis. Like the first time around, I was once again well vetted before I

was offered a beautiful, or should I say handsome, young brindle male. His chosen “big boy” name was PawPrint’s Bit

O’Blarney. And with that, Blarney Boxers went back into the show ring.

Our young man, now called “Clancy,” hit the show ring like a tornado. With the tremendous and loving assistance and

guidance from Deb Struff and Karen Quagliana, Clancy finished his Championship at thirteen months of age and his

Grand Championship at eighteen months. There was no stopping him. He thought, and still thinks, all dog shows are held

just for him and he wonders why all the other dogs even show up.

Starting late last year, Clancy began his Specials career. And this time, his is being handled by yet another wonderful

lady, Lisa Holden. From here I can only imagine where, Blarney Boxers, Sally and I will go. But there is one thing for sure,

we’re not stepping back from the Boxer ring ever again!

Gary C. & Kathrnyann N. Sarvinas -- TAFKAN

1. How long have you been involved with Boxers and how

did you become involved?

Forever, my parents had boxers when I was a baby. Our first

boxer was a plain fawn bitch named Mazalaine’s Countess

Velvet.

2. Highlight your accomplishments in breeding and exhibiting, conformation, performance, agility and /or other related competitions? I bred 5 champions and had 3 dogs with CD’s

3. Have you been the recipient of any ABC or other important dog related Awards? I bred a Dam of Merit, Tafkan’s Image in Time “Flirt” 4. Please tell us which of your Boxers have brought you the greatest pleasure/success into your life and why? I cannot pick just one, they have all been special and made my life wonderful. 5. What is your kennel name and the story of how you came up with it? Tafkan, Gary and I were on our way to our first ABC when it was in Woodbridge N.J. On the way up we had been talking about kennel names. The name of the dog I had at that time was named Taffy and she was to be our foundation bitch. Someone in the car said that Taf can be the beginning. So instead of Tafcan, I changed it to Taf (the 1st 3 letters of her name) and KAN’s (the initials of my maiden name) and the S (the first initial of my married name). 6. Have you or are you currently a Dog Author, Professional Handler, or AKC Judge? If so, for how long? I am an AKC Junior Showmanship Judge. 7. List the dog clubs to which you belong and how long you have served those clubs, especially particulars for service to ABC? When Obedience returned to the ABC National, I was the Obedience Chair for several years. I was the Show Chair and Show Secretary for the Maryland Boxer Club; I received all the entries and compiled the catalog. Currently, I am an instructor and AKC Delegate for the Dog owner’s Training Club of Maryland. As the Delegate I have been elected to the Companion Events Committee and have served as such for 10 years. I am also the Secretary for the Maryland Kennel Club and am also the Secretary for the Mid-Atlantic Steward’s Association.

Gary is the Past President of the Maryland Boxer Club and Past AKC Delegate from the Catonsville Kennel Club and Currently the AKC Delegate for Maryland Kennel Club. He was the Obedience Chairman for both the Catonsville and Maryland Kennel Club. 8. What are your current interests and activities relative to pure-bred dogs, and particularly the Boxer Breed? For the past 25 years we have been teaching conformation handling to both Adults and Juniors. We are very proud of one of our Juniors. C.T. Giese won the Eukanuba show over 140 other juniors. He made the finals for 6 times. He also qualified for Westminster several times. We have finished 10 Border Terrier Champions and currently still have 4 of those Border Terriers.

There is one thing that I want everyone to know. The most rewarding times I spent show dogs is the times I spent assisting Chris and Dick Baum and Marylou Hatfield. Everything I learned from those three wonderful handlers, I am able to teach the new students that come to our handling classes. To these wonderful handlers, I am most grateful.

Pamela Savoye -- SAVOYE Boxers have been my breed since my Mom, Barbara, bought our first one in 1964 and joined the Wichita Boxer club. Mom then acquired CH Kaiser's Bolero "Rebel" from Mrs. Frances Albert, a brindle son of CH Salgray's Fashion Plate, and the world of show Boxers began. In 1981 after I graduated High School in Houston, TX, we purchased a plain brindle Traper daughter from TuRo Kennels. TuRo's Aziza was full sister to Top Winning CH TuRo's Cachet. A move to Omaha, NE in 1984 and with Aziza's puppies I started showing my Boxers, learning, listening, reading. I joined The Missouri Valley Boxer Club and learned More!

I'm a second generation breeder, having learned so much from Mom. We have bred 20+ American Champions, 3 Dams Of Merit and have sold to Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand, and now have a top Mexican/American Champion burning the rings in Mexico. Most notable accomplishments

I breeder/owner/handled CH Savoye's Goldana Royale, DOM "Shelby" to her Championship (1994).

Hong Kong CH Savoye's Dorado Classic "Cody" was #1 Top Show Dog All-Breed in Hong Kong (1998) He finally passed the Peke!

AM/CAN CH Savoye's Starion Goldfire "Saber" was first Am/Can Ch Import to New Zealand and sire of the most champions finished in one year All-Breed.

Savoye's Savan DeVille "Vanna" 1st DOM, her daughter, CH Savoye's Goldana Royale "Shelby" 2nd DOM

AM/CAN CH Savoye's Shantilli Lace DOM #3

And currently AM/MEX CH WannaBox's Devil Fire TT "Chaos", a boy I co-bred and finished, is winning in Mexico! In the early 2000's Mom gave more control of Boxer decisions to me as she developed interests elsewhere. I took the lead and haven't slowed down since. I sold a cute, plain brindle bitch to Megan Byers in 2003 as a pet, but she was looking good so I co-owned her with Megan to show and Savoye's Cavalier Lace "Lacy" became the foundation of WannaBox Boxers. We have partnered up on some breedings and still do our own thing too. Ricky McKean, my friend, partner, fiancé is always there enjoying the dogs and shows and helping me out so much! Our 1st out of town trip together was to crop 5 pups! I'm a Lifetime Member of Missouri Valley Boxer Club and an ABC Member (now Lifetime!!!) I haven't held positions due to my full time job, but I'll have to make time to do more. I breed to the standard with emphasis on great temperament, heads, toplines and health of this noble breed. The Savoye Boxer does stand out.

Shelli Sinclair-Wood -- BOX-SIN

I can’t remember a time when Boxers were not a large part of my life. My first

introduction was playing in the litter box of puppies which my parents, Larry and

Janet Sinclair, bred in 1964. I attended my first dog show in a stroller. Back then it

was our family sport.

I began breeding Boxers over forty years ago under the Box-Sin prefix. During that

time I owned two Boxer bitches that I trained in obedience and showed at 4-H

shows. As soon as I was old enough, I entered the Junior Showmanship ring with

my first champion Boxer. When my handling skills were more perfected, I entered

the breed ring alongside my mother and father.

During my teenage years, I assisted my father in

his handling business. Together, we showed

hundreds of Boxers, finished many champions, and campaigned top winning Boxer

specials. Later, I developed my own clientele of Boxer clients and began competing

on my own. During this time I was in college completing my bachelor’s and master’s

degrees in teaching and administration.

In my adult life, I have been active in many breed and all-breed clubs. I am a member

of the Spokane Boxer Club and American Boxer Club. I have served in the offices of

president, vice-president, secretary, and judges’ education liaison for the Spokane

Boxer Club. I have been a Regional Board Member for the American Boxer Club and

have served as Show Chairman for a specialty in conjunction with a Regional Show. I

have served as Show Chairman several times for the all-breed club to which I belong.

I work as a teacher and perform administrative duties for the school district in which I

am employed.

Later, when both my parents became judges, I decided once again to follow in

their footsteps and try my hand at judging. It has been a wonderful

experience for me, and I have been fortunate to determine the merits of many

quality Boxers at large entry shows. Shows that I have judged with

considerable Boxer entries have included Pacific Northwest Boxer Club,

Minnesota Boxer Club, Boxer Club of Arizona, Spokane Boxer Club, Olympic

Kennel Club, Louisiana Kennel Club, Greater St. Louis Boxer Club, Sacramento

Valley Boxer Club, Orange Coast Boxer Club, and Souhegan Kennel Club

(Middlesex Boxer Club). I have also judged Boxer specialty shows in Canada

and Japan. My greatest honor will be judging the American Boxer Club

National Specialty this year.

Karen Speck -- STONY CREST

My first Boxer, Mittens Bambeau Quiratrix, was in 1949. She was

the love of my life and I knew I would never have any other breed.

She was my first show dog and won first prize for the shortest tail at

the local school dog show.

As an adult with two boys, I wanted my children to have the same

wonderful experience with a dog that I had as a child. I purchased

Jacquet's Parley from Rick Tomita, a kind and generous friend. We

had 14 wonderful years with her. She was a terrific Obedience dog

and a special part of my life. Rick Tomita got me hooked on

Confirmation showing, and I started showing my own dogs, which I

continue to do today. Parley produced my first two bred-by Champions, Am/Ber/Jap Ch. Jacquet's Razzle

Dazzle, who went on to become the number one Boxer in Japan, and Ch. Jacquet's Peindre Lady. Several

of my Bred-by Boxers had the honor of most Bred-by wins at ABC.

I had the pleasure of finishing most of my dogs to championships in the US, Canada and Bermuda along

with several that belonged to friends.

My kennel name is Stony Crest and was named for where I live, on the crest of a mountain that is full of

rocks and stones.

I was a member of Sand and Sea KC for many years until I moved far away, and currently a life member

of the New Jersey Boxer Club.

The present loves of my life, in addition to my children, are Ch. McCoy's Pure of Heart, Ch. Liberti's First

Class Patriot and McCoy's Legend of the Heart at Stony Crest, who needs one major to finish his

championship. All are from my dear and wonderful friend, Larry McCoy.

Though I love showing my dogs, they are first my family, friend and part of my home.

Paul & Cynthia Starr -- SIG'S

Cindy and Paul Starr have had Boxers since their childhoods. When Cindy’s parents

bought the next family boxers Cindy’s interest in showing dogs was initiated in her

teenage years.

Paul and Cindy bought their foundation boxers in 1984 began showing and finished

their Famous Amos son at the age of two. They are both in the medical field so

chose the name Sig’s for their kennel name as it is abbreviation for the signature

that goes on a prescription.

Paul and Cindy were active members of the

Potomac Boxer club from the early 1980’s

and when they moved in the 1990’s they joined the Maryland Boxer club. Over

the years they held several offices including president, show chairman, and board

of directors.

Their first litter produced CH. Sig’s Star Sapphire known as “Mandy” who finished

her championship owner handled at the age of 13 months with multiple best of

breeds and group placements. They became members of ABC and served as ring

stewards for the ABC nationals since early 1990’s when ABC was in New Jersey

and were chief stewards for ABC when it was in Kentucky. Currently Paul serves

on the health resource committee.

Mandy was bred and whelped her litter two weeks before Cindy and Paul had their only child, Jessica, that Mandy

considered part of the litter. This litter produced their next home bred /owner handled AM/CAN CH. Sig’s Tater Tot

known as “Spud”, who was reserve winners dog at ABC in 1993.

CH. Sig’s Solar Eclipse, known as “Sasha” placed 4rth at the ABC nationals in a

large brood bitch class with her two sons, CH. Sig’s Fire and Ice known as “Ice”,

and CH. Sig’s Storm Chaser, known as “Chase. These two boys were born had

during a terrible blizzard were Sasha was having difficulty whelping and they could

not get to the vet. Cindy managed to help Sasha to deliver the puppy stuck in the

birth canal, who was Chase pictured on the right, saving the lives of mother and

her puppies. Recently Chase and his sister Miley returned the favor by saving

Cindy’s life after a severe bicycle accident that left her unresponsive on the road

with a severe head injury early in the

morning. Chase and Miley, saw a neighbor

walking and brought this them to the

rescue. Chase was the first of their owner

handed dogs that finished from the bred by exhibitor class.

Two years ago CH. Sig’s Dekota Moon, known as “Koda”, was brought out of

having so much fun he was attracting people from other breeds to come and

cheer for him. This past year at the same circuit their newest boxer in the show

ring, Sig’s Amazing Grace, received bred by exhibitor best in show. Paul and

love, companionship, and loyalty that this breed is capable of is more rewarding than all those championships. Paul and

the years that all have a common interest in promoting the welfare of the boxer breed and looking out for one another.

Richard M. & Sharon K. Steckler -- RONARD

1. How long have you been involved with Boxers and how did you become involved? My husband, Richard, and I have been involved in boxers for over 40 years. Our first boxer, Gretchen, was a classic, plain boxer girl that we later discovered was pretty nicely bred, with a strong Salgray, Har-Vel, CaJon, Ackland, Becrelen, and Bayview breeding--not that we knew what any of that meant at the time. 2. Highlight your accomplishments in breeding and exhibiting, conformation, performance, agility and /or other related competitions? In very limited breeding, we have produced 13 AKC champions of record under our kennel name, Ronard Boxers. 3. Have you been the recipient of any ABC or other

important dog related Awards? Yes, our Ch. Ronard's Grande Image "Ami" was a Dam of Merit from one litter. She was bred to Ch. CherKei's Ultimate High "Travis" who produced beautifully. 4. Please tell us which of your Boxers have brought you the greatest pleasure/success into your life and why? It's sort of like parents with children, I suppose. You love them all equally, but differently. If I had to choose, it would be my "heart" dog, Ch. Ronard's Kaiser Marshall, whose sire was the great Ch. Rochil's Grande Marshall, SOM, and our beloved Gretchen. It was Gretchen's first litter, and Kaiser was our first champion. He made my heart happy every day of his life.

5. What is your kennel name and the story of how you came up with it? We combined the last three letters of my first name, Sharon, and the last three letters of my husband's first name, Richard, and voila'--Ronard. 6. Have you or are you currently a Dog Author, Professional Handler, or AKC Judge? If so for how long? I am an AKC judge of Boxers, Great Danes, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers and all-breed Junior Showmanship. I have been judging for over 10 years 7. List the dog clubs to which you belong and how long you have served those clubs, especially particulars for service to ABC? I belong to the Houston Kennel Club, the Bluebonnet Boxer Club, and, of course, the American Boxer Club. I have served the Bluebonnet Boxer Club since 1984 as

president, secretary, treasurer, and show chairman. I have served ABC as treasurer since 2002, and it remains my pleasure and privilege to continue to serve. I have also served as a director of ABC for three 3-year terms. 8. What are your current interests and activities relative to pure-bred dogs, and particularly the Boxer Breed? I continue to be active in my local specialty club, and enjoy judging at the various boxer specialties around the country. It is my pleasure to serve as legal counsel for the American Boxer Club Top Twenty and the American Boxer Charitable Foundation. I am passionate about preserving the Boxer standard.

Debbie Struff -- RAKLYN My husband John and I got our first Boxer pet right around the same time we got married in 1976. He wasn’t a show dog but I did take him to Obedience Classes and put a CD on him. Because of him, I met many of the local Boxer Breeders in the area like Tina King, Leni & Jerry Kaplan, Elaine Mangiafico, Pat Billhardt, Stephanie & David Abraham, Cheryl & Keith Robbins, and Clayton Haviland to name a few. In 1980 I bought my first “show” bitch and the foundation bitch of Raklyn Boxers from The Kaplan’s of Hi-Hat Boxers. Her name was Hi-Hat’s Aldebaran, CD she was a daughter of Stephanie & David’s CH. Trefoil’s Dylan of Donessle and I handled her myself. It wasn’t pretty I assure you, I never finished her but, I co-owned her with Tina King and we bred her to CH. Turo’s Traper of Marquam Hill and she gave us CH. Raklyns Rebellion. Her second breeding was to CH. Aracrest Talisman and we kept a beautiful bitch from that litter named CH. Raklyns Solitaire, whom I did finish myself.

My daughter Erin was born in 1982 and was raised with the Boxers. She showed in Juniors, helped mom at the shows and grew up to be a very talented handler. Together we have carried on the Raklyn Boxer name and produced: 25 Champions 3 Sires of Merit 3 Dams of Merit 2 Legion of Merit 3 Top 20 Contenders My proudest accomplishment is CH. Raklyns Celebration, SOM, LOM who in 2 litters produced 6 Champions and 4 Producers. She is one of only 2 bitches that have produced 4 Producers of Merit. Of course the sires of these 2 litters were also great producers, CH. Hi-Tech’s Johnny-J of Boxerton and CH. Shadow’s Nairobi.

The dog that I had the most fun with was GCH. Raklyns The Bronx MVP at Third, SOM “Arod”. There is just something very special about whelping, raising, training and showing your own homebred Top Special. Arod was a top Special for over 2 years and has gone on to be a great Producer currently the sire of 16 Champions. I still breed but on a much more limited basis since I am a full time Professional Handler now. Breeding Boxers has been my passion most of my adult life and will continue to be for as long as I am able. I am proud to be a Lifetime Member of the American Boxer Club!

Jane Wilkinson -- WILMOR

I have been involved in boxers since 1973 when I fell in love with a litter of boxer puppies

owned by my neighbor. I brought home my first Boxer, “Mistina” , to join my Brittany,

“Tex” , who I was showing in obedience. I put obedience titles on both my dogs and got

hooked on obedience. When I lost “Mistina” to cancer in 1978, I began looking for another

boxer to show in obedience. After talking to Stephanie Abraham and other breeders, I was

referred to Cheryl Robbins, who had a litter of

puppies sired by her CH. Cherkei’s Son-Of -A Gun.

That is when Cherkei’s Christopher Robin came into

my life. He was the runt of the litter, but I had to

agree that if he did turn out to be show quality, I

would show him in conformation. That May at the

American Boxer Club National Specialty in Newark, New Jersey, Christopher

Robin won first place in his futurity class under the guidance of Chic Chiccarini.

Christopher Robin became CH. Cherkie’s Christopher Robin one year later.

Christopher Robin was followed by my second champion, “Clint”, CH. Cherkei’s

Hang-Em High. In 1990, I bred a bitch I co-owned with Kathy Frohock, Katu’s

Mermaid of Darway and had my first litter. From this litter came CH. Kanto’s Ritz

Bits. Many boxers followed under our kennel names, Wilmor and Kan-to.

Our most notable boxers have been CH. Wilmor’s Wild Irish Rose who was

produced when Ellen Bradley bred her CH. Cherkei’s Hang-Em-High’s daughter,

“Izzy” to CH. Talisman’s Shillelagh, “Murphy”. “Rosie” was Tuni Claflin Conti’s

first Client special. She won many breed and opposites sex awards followed by

winning an Award of Merit at the Westminster Kennel Club in 1997. Rosie

produced CH. Wilmor’s Ego Trip, CH. Wilmor’s Zone Blocker and CH. Wilmor’s

Ramblin’ Rose Kan-to, “Cole”, who made the Top Twenty competition in 2001.

I then bred Rosie’s daughter, Maggie to CH. Brush Hill’s Head Honcho who

produced the love of my life, CH. Wilmor’s Second Hand Rose Kan-to, “Sassy”.

“Sassy” finished her championship at the ABC

Regional in 2004, was in the Top Twenty in 2006

and received two Awards of Merit at ABC in 2005

and 2008. In 2007, Sassy was bred to Pamela

Shaw George’s Legion of Merit, CH. Shadow’s Nairobi, producing seven wonderful

puppies. Sassy won the Brood Bitch Class at ABC in 2008 under breeder judge, Rufus

Burlson with “Brando” and “Morty”. Out of this litter came CH. Wilmor’s Mufasa Kanto

(Jake), CH. Wilmor’s Hakunna Matata Kan-To

“Morty”, CH. Wilmor’s Rafiki’s Pride ”Teddy”

and CH. Standing-O’s Circle of Life “Brando”

to make Sassy a Dam of Merit in 2010. Also

from this litter was Sassy’s daughter “Molly”,

Wilmor’s Smart Cookie owned by Alison

Vicuna Molly won the top Performance Award at ABC in 2014 with the

following titles: MACH 4 Wilmor’s Smart Cookie CDX, RE, MXB2, MJS2,

MXP, MJP, XF, T2B, CA.

I have been a member of the Holyoke Kennel Club in Holyoke,

Massachusetts for the past forty years. I am currently the Holyoke Kennel

Club’s Secretary, Show Chairman and AKC Delegate. I have also belonged

Page 32: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

to the Middlesex Boxer Club since 1980. Kathy Frohock and I spent many years as Trophy Chairman for the Middlesex

Boxer Club. I then joined the American Boxer Club in 1991.

After retiring from teaching for thirty-five years, I continue to teach part time as a Math

Tutor. For the past five years, I have been involved with the 4-H Programs in

Connecticut and Massachusetts. All four of my boxers work in the 4-H Program with

my friend’s three great- grandchildren. Our boxers love their new job working in both

AKC Showmanship, 4-H Showmanship and Obedience. I enjoy working with the 4-H

Clubs to encourage these young handlers to become involved in AKC events since they

are the future of our sport. Currently, I have two of Sassy’s grand-daughters, Wilmor’s

Rumor Has It of Standing-O Kanto, “Gabby” and Wilmor’s Shameless Flirt of Standing-O,

“Flirt “. Sassy’s son Morty and daughter Joan , who are eight, live with my Uncle,

Richard Morton and are still actively involved in 4-H. Kathy Frohock has our CH.

Standing-O Rhythm and Blues, Hawke, who is ten. I would like to thank Tuni Claflin

Conti, Cheryl Robbins, Kathy Frohock, Pamela Shaw-George and Ellen Bradley for their

support during my life with this wonderful breed, the Boxer.

Jerry & Lynda Yon -- ROSEND Jerry and I are thrilled to be ABC Life Members. It was 29 years ago, looking for a breed we could show, when we saw a Boxer sitting in the distance and were struck by its elegance; it was just the right size, wash and wear, and then the face; we knew that we had found our next breed. Our search for a puppy began! We quicky purchased two puppies, Glennroe Brandy N'Cream and High Crest's Desert Rose. Zona Grupe, Glennroe Boxers, became our mentor and helped show us the “ropes.” From this

beginning, we achieved our first champion and our first home-bred champion. We were also inspired to select our kennel name…Rosend Boxers…it reflected the “end of our 180 roses” with the arrival of our third Boxer! It was through our next purchase that we achieved success beyond our expectations -- CH. Bridgewood's B.K. Kahuna, SOM, LOM, Raider. Michelle Steele found Raider for us and we were lucky that his breeder, Bridget Reinhold, was willing to sell him. He is the patriarch of our kennel. Raider was a 2-time Top 20 Contender, but his greatest success was as a sire; he produced 6 LOM’s (unprecedented in our breed), 10 ABC SOM/DOM, 5 ABC Top 20 Contenders, 26 American Champions and 7 Canadian Champions.

Rosend has enjoyed wonderful success over the past 29 years, including:

3 ABC LOM 7 ABC SOM 6 ABC DOM 6 ABC Top 20 Contenders (3 are 2-time) 47 AKC Champions 4 Grand Champions 2 All-breed BIS 2004 ABC Grand Futurity Winner 31 BISS

On our Boxer path, some highlights include CH. Rosend’s Uptown Girl, DOM, LOM (dam of 5 SOM/DOM, 9 AKC champions, and dam of one LOM); CH. Rosend’s Key Largo, SOM, LOM (Top 20 Contender and MBISS winner); GCH. Conquest-Rosend’s New Kid In Town (back-to-back BIS winner, 2-time Top 20 contender, and MBISS winner); CH. Rosend's Time After Time (2004 ABC Grand Futurity Winner, MBISS winner, and Top 20 contender); and CH. Rosend’s Bo Diddley, SOM (2-time Top 20 Contender and MBISS winner).

We are members of the East Bay Boxer Club and the ABC. Lynda has been a member of the ABC's Top 20 Committee and an ABC Regional Zone Director. We have served in a number of capacities

Page 34: Lin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR - American Boxer Club IncLin & Martha Barbour -- LINMAR ... Anne Keil Ellie’s daughter ... South Florida was somewhat isolated from the scene which

for EBBC, including President, Board of Directors, Recording and Corresponding Secretary, and show chairman. Finally, when they say “it takes a village,” it is true. Our success has been due to serious breeders who have either bred to our dogs and/or have purchased our puppies. It is through their determination and love of showing these Boxers that we accomplished the above and we are thankful. Finally we must thank Bob and Debbie White, Conquest Boxers, who have partnered in our breeding program over the past 9 years and have been our great friends. Debbie and Lynda have enjoyed the fun and lived through the stress of breeding litters. We’ve had even more fun going to dog shows, watching our Boxers and having great fun with dog show friends.
