Limbecker Platz Essen
Shopping in a Ruhrgebiet Metropolis
“Limbecker Platz” shopping center in Essen is one of the largest and most modern inner-city shopping centers in
Germany. Its interior is divided into four square-shaped, themed malls which convey reminiscences of Paris, Rom,
Amsterdam, and Essen. The outer facade was designed by star architect Gunter Henn as a “sequin dress” – inspired by
Marilyn Monroe's flying dress in the classic movie “The Seven Year Itch”.ECONOMIC ATTRACTIVENESS OF THE CITY

Thinking and acting sustainably – from the planning stage to operation. This describes the holistic approach
that ECE has made the basis of its long-term corporate philosophy. In this spirit, ECE has written and published,
in collaboration with the University of Karlsruhe, a sustainability manual for shopping centers. Further impetus
has come from the independent experts who sit on its Sustainability Advisory Board. The objective is to save
energy and to reduce the CO emissions. At Limbecker Platz shopping center, this is done by implementing a
dynamically controlled light and energy concept with a dynamic control. The illuminants can be controlled
depending on the daylight which optimizes the use of energy. In addition, the latest energy-efficient light
sources and certified green energy are used.
