n fact, it’s absolutely enormous. More than 25 million people are employed by the production and sale of clothing and

textiles worldwide. The global fashion industry represents 2% of the value of the entire world economy. In comparison, the pharmaceutical

industry, which supplies all the medicines used by all the people in the world, is just over half that in size. The size and diversity of the industry means that there is a place— and indeed, a demand—for people of diverse talents and abilities at all levels.

WHERE BUSINESS MEETS FASHION

The fashion business is always looking for good problem solvers. So how

do you become one? By gaining a “big-picture” perspective. That’s where we come in.

A SOLID FOUNDATION

Your liberal arts courses at LIM College will help you develop the critical-thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and capacity for lifelong learning that employers look for. With classes that range from Cross-Cultural Communications to E-Commerce to Visual Merchandising to Chinese Language and Culture, you’ll build a broad knowledge base that will give you the flexibility to change jobs or even careers down the line or pursue graduate study, if you choose.

COURSE WORK

Expect to work hard. Expect to learn a lot. Expect results. An education at LIM College prepares you for a successful career in the fashion industry and gives you

the tools to be a lifelong learner. Where else are you going to find a combination like that?

A GOOD FIT

All of this learning takes place in an intimate, supportive setting that recognizes and respects the diversity of learning styles. Your classes will be small and your professors accessible. If and when problems arise, solutions are never far behind. LIM College is also noted for the ease with which we integrate transfer students, who make up a significant segment of our population. Many of our students find that, for the first time in their lives, they have arrived at a place where people understand and respect their interests and empower them to do what they dream of doing.

SIGNIFICANT PRACTICAL

WORK EXPERIENCE.

FASHION MERCHANDISING (BBA)

Fashion Merchandising can be defined as a broad understanding of the industry that joins design, product development, textiles, manufacturing, and retailing while keeping an eye on the ultimate target—the consumer. Choose a track in Apparel and Accessories, Home Fashions, or Retail, Buying and Planning, and have many career options ahead of you, including fashion forecaster, buyer, event planner, or product developer. We also offer a Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) and Associate Degrees (AAS/AOS) in Fashion Merchandising.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (BS)

In today’s world, where corporations are multinational and commerce doesn’t

stop for borders, both fashion and business are truly international languages. International Business majors explore fashion’s global markets, economies, politics, and cultures, and go on to careers focusing on the international aspects of buying, licensing, e-commerce, and public relations.

MANAGEMENT (BBA)

The organization and coordination of the activities of a business in order to achieve defined objectives fall under the auspices of Management. Course work focuses on retail and merchandise management, entrepreneurship, and global management, and it prepares graduates for positions as buyers, assortment planners, general managers, store owners, and many more.

MARKETING (BBA)

Marketing is the business function centrally responsible for generating revenue and building relationships and has several applications within fashion or in marketing positions in other dynamic industries. Representative titles include brand manager, licensing specialist, publicist, and event planner.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING (BBA)

An indispensable and integral component of the fashion business, Visual Merchandising is the profession of developing floor plans and three-dimensional displays that can help maximize sales. Our Visual Merchandising graduates go on to become stylists, display designers, showroom directors, and more.

CONCENTRATIONS

Students who choose to complete a concentration in a particular area of expertise will take at least three courses in a prescribed sequence to build their understanding of their chosen focus. Concentrations provide a more enriching academic experience, allowing you to acquire specialized knowledge for a specific career path. We offer concentrations in:

• Cosmetics • Digital Business Strategy • Entrepreneurship • Event Planning • Fashion Communications • Fashion Merchandising • Fashion Publishing • International Marketing • Responsible Business

Practices• Retailing• Styling • Visual Merchandising

ASK THE EXPERTS

Many of our faculty members have extensive professional

experience in the fashion industry, publish regularly, and frequently lecture at conferences around the world. Others are published authors or successful entrepreneurs. Best of all, they’re all here to teach. Consider some of the positions our faculty members hold or have held:

• President, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia

• Executive Vice President and General Manager, Revlon

• Editor-in-Chief, SELF Magazine • Fashion Director, MTV Networks• Director of Client and Studio

Services, Henri Bendel

They foster a culture of learning that is rigorous while also being warm and supportive. They are here to educate and to help, serving as advisors and mentors to our students.

“I chose LIM College because of how small and personal it is. I love that I can build relationships with my professors and keep in touch with them so easily.”

ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?

When you enter LIM College, you’re entering a college dedicated

solely to the business of fashion. Sure, other colleges and universities allow students to explore fashion merchandising and marketing, but LIM College focuses exclusively on preparing you for a career in these fields. Through your internships and Senior Co-op, on-campus events that feature fashion leaders, and the industry opportunities only New York City can provide, you’ll begin the networking that is at the heart of this people-oriented industry. You’ll graduate not only with a degree but also a résumé.

INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS

Both on and off campus, you’ll meet and work with major players in the fashion industry. They have the skills, the knowledge, and the hands-on experience to succeed in this demanding, fast-paced industry. You’ll have opportunities to work at fashion shows all over town, but nothing tops LIM College’s own Fashion Show. Our students mastermind this annual

extravaganza down to the last pin, making connections and memories at the same time.

IN THE MIX

As an LIM student, you will be part of the industry from the get-go, choosing from an exciting range of part-time internships and volunteer opportunities. The most popular is Fashion Week, an annual extravaganza of fashion shows that attracts thousands of buyers, retailers, and members of the national and international press. LIM students work behind the scenes—setting up shows, dressing models, and seating guests for top designers who have, in the past, included Kenneth Cole, Zac Posen, Perry Ellis, Band of Outsiders, and Yigal Azrouël. You may also get the call to help out with Market Weeks, trunk shows, and other special events.

ON REPUTATION

“Our experience with our interns from LIM College has been wonderful. The students who have worked for us are well prepared and eager to learn and develop their skills in the workplace.”

New York City is a giant metropolis, but for our students, LIM College often feels like a small town. Even with a population of more than eight million people, New York City is consistently ranked among the top ten safest large cities in America by Forbes. LIM College reflects the best qualities of the city: diverse, accepting, challenging, and overflowing with opportunities. Let the city be your classroom. Find inspiration in restaurants, parks, museums, theaters, street corners, subways, rooftops, and, of course, all the stores and showrooms surrounding you. This is our campus—in the cultural and financial epicenter of the world. This is New York City.

MONEY MATTERS

and your family can contribute. Financial aid is given in the following forms:

• Merit scholarships, which are based on academic merit. Financial need is not a factor.

• Grants, which are need-based and do not have to be repaid, offered by LIM College, the LIM Fashion Education Foundation, the federal government, and state agencies. LIM College offers both tuition and residence grants for those who qualify.

• Loans, which must be repaid.• Work-study, in the form of

part-time on- and off-campus job opportunities.

Eighty-three percent of LIM students receive some form of financial aid. Although the process of applying for financial aid may seem daunting, our financial aid counselors are always here to help you. But do not wait until you are admitted to apply for financial aid—file

the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as close to January 1 as possible and before our priority filing deadline of March 1. You can file the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The LIM College federal school code for the FAFSA is 007466. For more information on LIM College, federal, and state-sponsored forms of financial aid, please visit our website at www.limcollege.edu/financialaid.

LIM College offers a variety of scholarships that are both need-based and non-need-based, ranging from $1,000 up to half-tuition per year.

Additional scholarships are also available from the LIM Fashion Education Foundation. For information on the eligibility criteria, amounts, and application procedures for individual scholarships, go to our website at www.limcollege.edu.

HOUSING

Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is not guaranteed. Priority for student housing is given to students who maintain full-time matriculation status.

You will receive a Housing Application upon your acceptance to LIM College. For more detailed information and policies on LIM College housing, please refer to our website at www.limcollege.edu.

OFF-CAMPUS MEAL PLAN

While LIM College does not offer a traditional on-campus meal plan, great food can be found almost anywhere in New York. When eating out, use your LIM College off-campus meal plan to pay your tab at a variety of local restaurants. You can also use the card to shop at select local delis, grocery stores, and Good to Go, our on-campus café. Visit www.ocmp.com for more information.

In fact, 87 percent of our 2013 graduates were employed within six months of graduation. Our counselors will work closely

with you and your family to find financing formulas to make this experience possible for you.

TUITION

Tuition for the 2014–2015 academic year is $23,650, and mandatory fees are an additional $575. Tuition does not include housing or books.

Part-time tuition is $785 per credit. Housing is an additional $15,850 annually. you to submit supplemental information about yourself, such as a résumé or additional letters of recommendation, to support your application.

We generally look for freshman applicants who have at least a B average, or a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and college transfer students with a 2.5 or better. The middle range for Fall 2012 entering students on the Math and Critical Reading sections of the SAT was 870–1030. The middle range for the composite ACT score was 19–24. Students who possess a GPA of 3.5 or higher and SAT scores of 1150 (Math and Critical Reading) or an ACT composite of 25 or better will be invited into the Fashion Scholars program on a first-come, first-served based on availability.

Based on submitted materials, some students may be asked to interview, and interviews are also granted at the student’s request. LIM College has a rolling admissions policy, with the exception of our Early Action program. Applicants will receive a decision within four to six weeks after all required documents are submitted.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

Applicants for admission must submit the following:

• High School Students. We require SAT or ACT scores, an essay, high school transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.

• College Transfer Students. We require SAT or ACT scores (only for students with 15 or fewer credit hours completed), an essay, high school transcripts, transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits or grades earned), and two letters of recommendation.

• International Students. International applicants must submit all of the above and complete an admissions interview, which can be done in person, by phone, or via Skype. English language proficiency is required through TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores or proof of English proficiency. Transcripts / documentation /

credentials that are not in English must be officially translated word for word and certified or notarized. Applicants must submit both the translation and original documents. Visit www.limcollege.edu/language for details and a complete list of international applicant policies.

EARLY ACTION APPLICANTS

If you are applying as a first-time freshman and LIM College is among your top choices, then Early Action may be right for you. Early Action is nonbinding, and the deadline for submitting all materials is November 15. Early Action applicants are mailed a decision on December 15.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer students represent a sizable and integral segment of the LIM College student population. All courses taken at outside institutions are reviewed on an individual basis for comparison to courses offered at LIM College. We will be happy to provide you with an unofficial credit review at any time and will send a formal evaluation after you are accepted. The maximum number of credits LIM College will accept from a transfer student seeking a bachelor’s degree is 65 (32 credits for the associate degree), and there is a limit to the number of elective and liberal arts credits that are transferable.

Transfer students may apply for certain scholarships, the most popular of which is the LIM College Transfer Grant, awarded to students who transfer into LIM College with an associate degree and a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Transfer students are eligible to apply for LIM College housing, which is open to all levels of students on a first-come, first-served basis.
